Fellow smokers, I have a situation. I have been chronically smoking for about a month and I am taking a military drug test on friday. I plan to purchase some detox pills and basically drink a lot of water and tea.

I joining, so this will be my first test and I don't know if it will be a urinalysis or the hair, saliva etc....

Does anyone know anything about this matter.

I'm not in the military but it seems everyone going in on here has urine tests. Read up on here and find out whether detox pills, drinking tea, and lots of water is going to do anything or not.

detox drinks dont work ..it is the amount of water you add that might make you pass. and WHY if you are going into the military did you chronically smoking for about a month? kinda dumb...... well take "kinda" out

sorry to say man but you will fail, what you need to do is go to the drug office on base and tell them you have a problem BEFORE the test, this way there is nothing they can do to you since you are seeking help, and trust me man its not worth a discharge that is less than honrable(sp) In the military they use the best test system on the lowest scale. SO like I said seek help at the drug office on base and they can't do anything to you, but if you do go there expect many randoms UA's for you throughout your military life. Good luck.

Wrong. The military (and all the DOD, and DOT) use the standared 50 ng/ml screen level and a 15 ng/ml gs/ms confirmation level- don't totally freak someone out with inaccurate information....

I failed a random UA on active duty. My level was 43 ng/ml confirmed by GC/MS. How it detected on the standard 50ng screen I don't know. I guess 43 is close enough to trip it. I was smoking every day on leave and ate a brownie the night before coming back to work. Just shitty luck to get surprised with a test. I'd passed other random UAs with the dilution method. But it didn't work that time cause my level was so high. It probably would have been 430 ng/ml if I hadn't diluted. Once I knew I was going to get tested, I literally drank about a gallon of water and pissed like a race horse 3-4 times before giving the actual sample. My piss was so watery, I swear you could drink it and think it was water. That's one good thing about random military UAs , is they don't check for specific gravity and crap like that.

Bottom line, if you're going to take chances and smoke weed on active duty, you just have to use in small quantities. If you just take 1-2 hits of a joint, even if you take a piss test the next day, you'll pass by using the dilution method. I got caught because I was stupid and smoked a 1/4 of dank over a period of a week while I was on leave. I'd passed several other tests in the past, but I was lucky enough to not have smoked much and it was usually a week or two later after smoking when I was tested.

To the OP: You don't stand a chance. MEPS will throw a conniption fit if your piss doesn't look normal. And they piss test you again within your first 24 hours of arriving at boot camp. I really have to question your decision to join if you've been smoking the whole month leading up to your MEPS date.

Are you already in a delayed entry program and your MEPS visit is when you leave for bootcamp ? Or is the MEPS visit your first time there and you haven't enlisted yet? Either way, tell your recruiter flat out what's up. He'll do what needs to be done to get you more time.

But if you want to make a serious effort, you really need to stop smoking cold turkey right now. And don't smoke at all until you're at your final duty station and have a feel for how often they do random tests. If you get popped on your first enlistment, you'll lose GI Bill and most of your benefits. Luckily I got caught on my 2nd enlistment, so I got to keep GI Bill.

I think this policy varies from service to service. After I was busted, I read through all of the regulations and in my branch, if you admit to illegal drug use on your own accord, without failing a UA, they can still admin separate you (and they probably will) although they're not allowed to use it as a factor when considering the characterization of your discharge. In other words, if you admit to smoking weed, they can kick you out, but you'll still get an honorable discharge. I had a very good record and managed to get a general under honorable conditions. Which is 99% as good as honorable. Only difference being you will lose GI Bill with anything less than full honorable. However, the GI Bill contract only applies to your first enlistment. As long as you complete your first tour and get an honorable, you keep it. Even if later on in your military career you get busted on a UA.

I'm actually very pleased I was let out of my 2nd enlistment early. I shouldn't have re-upped. I was sick of it, but they bribed me with a very large reenlistment bonus.

sorry man I re-read what you wrote, your going to MEPS right? Well just tell your recruter (SP) that you will piss hot and he will extend your enlistment for a month for you to detox your body. Good luck but do not go take the test, try and wait it out. As long as your name is not on the dotted line they do not own you yet so you don't have to go.
