| Hey all, Just curious, I read in a kinda recent thread somewhere that the Asprine trick has been accounted for in testing now? Not sure if that means the Emit, GC/MS, or at all, but just curious. Gotta keep one step ahead of the bladder cops, even if I'm not smokin anymore, just for the knowledge. ![]()

I read that on a package insert not too long ago. It is also on a website for one of the larger (national) TPA's I was checking out. I don't know for sure if it is actually true or not, but enough of the instructions and websites have it posted what doesn't cause false positives and aspirine and ibuprophen were named. Also, with the GC/MS, the term "false positive" is a bit outdated. Most of the employment instant tests that have non-negative results are sent in for laboratory testing anyway. (probation tests are outta luck for the most part, those poor bastards have no options). Where instants are legal for employment, they save the employer money. Since doing instant testing is cheaper than running lab tests on 100% of pre-employments and/or randoms, some employers opt for the instant tests. They are wise to have the non-negatives sent to a lab for confirmation so the applicant cannot sue for a defective instant test. No one will complain about a negative test. It is only the positive test results that the employer needs to have laboratory confirmations for. Positive results account for approximately 6% of the pre-employment tests (using our facilities results).

Depends... for those that use instant test, there are SVT's (Speciman Validity Strips) that veryify SG, Creatinein, PH, and the common adulterants. It depends on if they use them or not. I bought these when I was worried about my own test. It REALLY sets your mind at ease, especially when your using the dilution method. Hell, even if your subbing, to make sure whatever your subbing is good. If your sample got bagged and tagged, it is probably going to a lab.

The instants now used at most facilities are a cup type with a adulterant panel built in. The cups check for specific gravity, pH and oxidents. IF the collector poured your urine into a vial (or two vials), put the top copy of the paperwork in the bag with the vials and sealed it up, yes, yours went to a lab. Not all employers use instants. Mostly the smaller employers use instants. The instant tests are not legal in all states for employers to use, that is why the employers who have stores in multiple states use lab tests for all their locations. Smaller employers who have stores or jobsites in only one state, could use an instant. Not all do. some do, some don't. It is totally employer specific.

Shady seems more concerned since it likely went to a lab. Sec3, doesn't the lab do an assay type test first and if it passes, great but if it's non-negative, it goes for confirmation? If that's correct, I think some people freak out more because theirs went to the lab thinking it's going right to GC/MS.

sec3, Are these types of tests available for home testing, from drug stores etc. ? I didnt spend much time looking into the different home tests available and just bought the 15 dollar dip stick test from wal-greens. However, I would like to try these cups with the adulterant panel built in to test my dilution limits.

I don't know about in the stores, haven't seen them myself. There are some online but they're about $8 each. That seems like a lot of money if you're using it to test various amounts of dilution. You can buy validity strips alone online. I've bought 25 for $15. Just search validity strips or specimen validity strips. They tell you the creatinine, specific gravity, ph and have a few pads on them for different adulterants.
