I was recently placed on probation for a simple possession charge in the state of Virginia(i know, it could only happen in VA lol), and part of my probation is random drug screenings. Well imagine my dismay, being a person who has smoked rather large amounts of marijuana everyday for the past 6 years. My question is this, for a person like me, how long does it actually take for every trace of marijuana to completely leave ones system? I've heard it can take up to 12 weeks for a habitual smoker's system to be clear. This leads me to my next question. If this is so, will my probation officer be aware of this fact.

The longest period I've read about of testing positive after abstinence is 105 days, but that's extremely rare. A month is much more common. If you've been smoking heavily for years it might take longer than that. There are a lot of factors involved, especially your percentage of body fat, how much you exercise, and your metabolism rate. Your PO will know that it takes a while to clean up. As long as your tests show a steady downward trend you should be OK.
