I applied for a temporary job through a temp agency and they required a drug screen to be offerred the job. I have friends who had the same job and the temp agency only saliva tested them, so I expected the same. I was a heavy smoker and quit 5 days before the drug screen, expecting to be fine, but they caught me off gaurd and gave me a urine test. I failed the test, but immediately denied the results, asking what THC was even for (even though i obviously know) and then asked them if it could be due to any of the medications i was taking. They said no, but at the same time they had no idea what my medications where or what they were used for. I also tested negative for amphetamine despite the fact that I am prescribed adderall, and I stated that this shows a lack of consistancy in the testing. I asked for a retest expecting to have time to go get a clean sample from a friend and subsitutue it. They immediately agreed but said that if I failed then I am responsible for the cost of the test ($50). I was then sent to a clinic, but unfortunately this clinic was literally 1 minute away from the temp office and they told me that if I didn't go straight there I would automatically fail. Being this far into my lie, I said what the hell, and went for my retest.

At the clinic I signed in, and I could hear one of the nurses talking on the phone with the temp agency regarding my test and what to give me. I couldn't hear the specifics, but it was obvious they were talking about me, especially since this clinic was a normal medical clinic, not a drug testing clinic. The nurses treated me like any normal patient and allowed me plenty of time to rehydrate myself so that I could provide another urine sample. I drank several glasses of water and a cup of coffee until I felt satisfied that I could pee again. I went into the bathroom and gave them a midstream sample that was still extremely yellow (only my 3rd pee of the day). The nurse took the sample, verified the temperature, placed the sample in a tube to be sent out, packaged it up and had me sign all of the paperwork. The paperwork says that the test was through MedTox and is Non-Regulated GC/MS, which according to the website has a THC cutoff of 2 ng/ml (extremely low!) I left feeling like shit and thought for sure i blew all chances of getting the job.

I was suppose to start the next day, but since I failed the initial drug test I didn't even bother showing up. I went around town looking for new jobs or the next several days. Then on Friday at around noon (exactly 3 full days after the drug test) I got a call from the woman who worked for the company I was trying to get the original job for, and was also connected with the temp agency. She immediately seemed apologetic about the drug test and started on about how they know some medications will cause a false positive, but others they were not sure about. Then she followed by offerring me 2 different jobs with the company, but in even better departments than originally planned. Being completely shocked, I accepted the job and I am now set to start training on Monday morning.

At first I thought how could this be? Then after some thinking I began to wonder if maybe the retest was simply calling my bluff. Since I already failed one test and they told me it would cost me $50 if i failed the retest, I decided maybe they were simply seeing if I would actually go take the retest, because who in their right mind would spend $50 to go take a retest expecting to fail (i obviously was caught in the moment and not thinking when I went for the retest).

So did I pass? I haven't heard anything from an MRO regarding a positive result for THC and it is now Friday evening, the official end of the work week. I initially thought this was a sure sign that I was good to go, but then I saw online that some positive results took a week or longer to be delivered to the person who failed the test. I'm so confused. Would they start me working after I failed an intial test without hearing back about the second test. I have no idea how I could have actually passed it. My only explanation is that they never actually sent out the test and went on my reaction alone.

Any thoughts? Am I clear or are they simply playing with my head. All necessary charges for the testing are suppose to be deducted from my first paycheck, so is it possible that they are simply going to have me show up for work, do my time until I earn enough to cover the charges, and then fire me? This seems unlikely, but every possible option is running through my head right now.

well it's now tuesday of the next week. i've been working for 2 days and no one has said anything so it looks like i'm in the clear. never would have thought things would have worked out this way.

for all of you that get a surprise drug test that you can't avoid...just give them hell and deny it all and you never know, they just might believe you
