Ok, so this is a lesson for all you new subbers. Knowledge is power!

I go to a Labcorp. Well my last test was 6-7-07 and the collector tried to pull a fast one on me. I use a small bottle that holds 70 cc's. She hands me the cup and goes "fill to the black line" and marks the cup with a Sharpie at about 140, which the graduation on the cup stops at 60. First thought "Oh shit" which lasted about .02 seconds. I am literally laughing as I open the bathroom door because I am thinking about all the stoners that would freak and use their sub with some of their pee. I dump what I have and walk out with confidence and I even peed in the toilet because I really had to go! She is all "Is that it" and I'm like "you only need 60 cc's I do this all the time and I voided the rest in the toilet because that is what I usually do." She fires back "well that is why I marked the line" and I told her does she really expect me to hold that much pee that long and commented about how long this labcorp takes to test you so if they wouldn't take so long it would be easier to hold that massive amount she just asked for. While she is splitting the sample (which really they can do my test with 45 but by using 60 she can just fill both to 30 and not think about it) she is trying to make me feel bad or something by trying to get exactly 30 ccs in both vials (there was still some in the specimen cup she could have used). So I just start laying it on "If you really needed that much the cups would be graduated to 150, you can do 30 in one vial and 15 in the other, etc" Then she almost spills one of the vials and I shut my mouth!


Sec3 has talked about situations like this several times. She has quoted protocols and adds that if they just ask for 60 sometimes they won't get that much from some people so they ask for a little more. I am a pro at it so I really don't suggest talking so much to them but I couldn't resist. Moral of the story don't piss in the cup when you are subbing because you should know what you are doing before you walk in there and be prepared for anything. Also, instead of using vinegar use a little sugar like Sec3 suggests and play it like "Well see if that is enough."

Now so that I am prepared for a spill, I am gonna wait to see what Sec3 says what is the proper procedure. She posted an answer about it one time and I searched and couldn't find it.

In addition, I waited 1 hour and 15 minutes. Was I worried about my sample staying at the right temp? No, not one damn bit because practice makes perfect and I always come out with a sample at the perfect temperature.

Despite this speed bump, subbing is still better than dilution whenever possible. It would have only been a problem if I let it be a problem.

Perfect. By calling her to the matt, you have put her on the defensive. I can't figure out why your collector chose to argue with you about this useless point. She had more than she needed, she gets paid for the collection, discards what she can't use, so why did it matter so much to her whether you gave 70mL or 140mL?
