I was pretty much a chronic smoker for about 6 or 7 years, had slowed down to a mainly pipe hits around May of this year and was only smoking about an 1/8th a week. I'm about 5'6", 165, average to fast metabolism. I stopped smoking on May 29th, I ended up finding out I was being laid off but luckily I had a job offer come up a couple of weeks after. I applied and got the job, on the condition that I could past a piss test. The afternoon before my first day I took a FirstCheck marijuana test and came up with a faint line indicating that I was clean. I went in and took the real test the next day, making for 29 days clean, and found out 6 days later that I tested positive. This blew me away since the home test came up negative, so I asked to be tested again. By this time I was 35 days clean, but decided not to chance it and bought the triple strength omni-clean. I chugged it down a couple hours before the test, drank some water after, pissed 3 times before I actually went in for the real deal. The company that hired me now has me waiting at home to see if the results come back negative. The place I went to runs it through a machine first, if there are no problems the employer gets the results in about 10-15 minutes. If they detect anything in your system or the machine has a problem, it is sent off to the lab. I took the second test yesterday evening, they had not received the results so that means it went to the lab. I'm betting it comes back positive again, or diluted. Either way I think I'm pretty much screwed, I guess we'll see. I would think having abstained for 35 days plus using the detox stuff from GNC it would have come back negative, but obviously I was wrong.

when using a home test, you must use the first pee of the day to get most accurate reading. i think that was your problem if you use urine from later in the day it is pr obably diluted somewhat from the liquid u consumed during the day. sorry to hear u failed, good luck for the next one, i hope u didnt dilute to much with that detox drink. let us now what happened the extra few days may have worked in your favor.

This is going to be interesting to see if you pass with this drink after failing 6 days before. Fiber can help a little and I hope you pass but this will be an interesting "experiment" you have unwilling undergone. We will see how much fiber or this drink helps (although your body has had 6 more days to clear some THC metabolites out). How much water/fluid would you say you had before the test and over what time frame?

You might have pulled the second test off with a negative.

My guess would be about 2 or 3 cans of soda in the morning, a small cup of water at lunch, and then about a cup and a half of water at the testing place. The cups there were huge, I'm guessing one could hold at least 1.5 to 2 20oz soda bottles worth of liquid. All of this was over a roughly 9 hour period.

I'm hoping it comes back negative, but I was assuming that they would not have to send it to the lab if that was the case. With the holiday I doubt I hear anything until Monday or Tuesday.

So if they send your sample off to the lab, does that automatically mean you failed?

No. Maybe 20% of those that I send to a lab that were screened non-negative using an instant device at our facility are found to be negative. The odds are against you, but I think for the fluid you drank. The instant test probably came back with an abnormal specific gravity reading and that is why it was sent to the lab.

How much exactly did you drink (in ounces) and how long prior to your test did you actually drink each glass?

Anything more than about 30 ounces within an hour of your test will risk a diluted result.

The emloyer has a choice with dilute negative results:

1. Accept it as a verified negative result.
2. Re-test.
3. Reject it as unacceptable and give you a failing result.

What they do for you, they must do for each and every applicant. If they have accepted dilute negatives before as a pass, they must also accept your specimen if it is dilute negative.

I drank about a cup and a half of water at the facility which was over about 45 minutes to 1 hour. I'm guessing by the size of the cup I drank somewhere between 20-35oz of water in that period. She did not fill the cup all the way and I didn't drink it dry before I asked for my first refill. I don't think I even drank half of the second, but it's possible. I honestly can't remember.

Hoe does the lab handle that? Will they call me and tell me it came back diluted, or will they just send the results to the employer without me hearing anything?

If it is negative dilute, you will not be contacted by the MRO. It is a decision totally up to the employer to make. If this employer has been testing for awhile, they probably already have a policy regarding dilute results. If this employer is just beginning or has been testing for less than a year, you case might just be the policymaker.

I would guess this company really does not have it's act together or they would not have let you test the second time. I advise all our clients that once positive, that's it. No second chances. Once an employer starts to allow an applicant to retest due to an unfavorable result, where do you draw the line? Now they must allow every applicant to re-test. They must also set rules about how long to allow an applicant to wait before a re-test, and how many times are they going to let the applicant re-test. Also, is it just for marijuana that they will allow a re-test or will they let heroin and crack addict re-test? It just opens up a whole can of worms and isn't worth it from an employer standpoint. It will get expensive to pay for all those tests and it delays the hiring process.

You got very lucky once. Maybe you can be again.
