Hi.....I am scheduled to take a physical for a job I have already been hired for this Friday. It would be about 13 days since I last smoked and I usually smoke once a day. My question is, are drug tests usually administered during regular physicals? They gave me a sheet that must be filled out by the doctor and on it it lists URINALYSIS with the words sugar, appearance, etc. next to it. Nobody has informed me that I would need to pass a drug test to continue employment nor have they told me that a drug test would be taken during the physical. Any thoughts? Should I still take precautions?

It seems cool, but if I were you I'd call the doc's receptionist and ask if I need to bring my presriptions in or if there will be no urinalysis. Another option is tell them that you suffer from "shy bladder" syndrome and need to know if you should take diuretics before you go in.

I think youre fine, if your company wanted a drug test you would have to sign a specific consent just for that. At least this has been my experience.

I agree with Maggie, also keep in mind that "urinalysis" doesn't necessarily mean drug test. Often times, namely with physicals, they get a urine sample to test things like creatinine, specific gravity, sterility, etc. just to test your kidney function.
