| This is a little off topic, but not really. I know kid who took 20 coricidin and about 2 hours later smoked some weed. Not really a good idea, but anyway, he had to go home later on. his parents found him in the batheroom puking and later on having mild seizures. They rushed him up the the hospital and after a short recovery period he was givin a UA. This kid is about 100 pounds and 5'7". very fast metabolism. A few days later i talked to him about this and he told me he that he failed for Opiates in his system, as well as TCH. I was wondering about that, because i really dont know where he would obtain opium. So i did some reseach on the internet and found out that DXM or Dextromethorphan, active ingredient in Cough and Cold medicines could fail for opiates. I was suprised to hear this because i guess these kids are going nuts over this stuff now days and taking around 30 of em. Just my two sence, found out that it is actually true that this can happen |

| A long time ago... It was discovered that opium from the opium poppy could supress the cough *spasm* or reaction in the chest by stopping the signal to cough via the brain. Opium was added to cough syrups (then called "patent" medicine). Folks were taking the Cough Tonics for everything that ailed 'em ...because opium also dulls pain. And the good folks were also getting addicted... So they changed the formula to codeine, a less powerful formula of opium, and continued to sell it... cautioning people that it was possibly "habit forming" Back in the stone age -- otherwise known as the 50's and the 60's it was decided to make anything with codeine a prescription drug here in the US, however to this day you can get codeine cough syrup in certain countries without a prescription -- and Non Habit Forming/Non Narcotic cough suppresants with Dextro. became all the rage. Dextro is a synthetic version of codeine -- and while it is not addictive, it still has a helluva lot of side effects. As recently as 5 years ago another ingredient was pulled from cough syrups like Dimetapp (created for Children with that great grape Taste ) The ingredient was PPA, Phenylpropalamine. This ingredient was used to "loosen" & thin mucous in the lungs to allow expectoration. What had not been told consumers was that it also was known to cause Strokes. It was also used in weightloss aids like Dexatrim. The reason I tell you all about this is that Over The Counter medications do not mean SAFE -- they are chemicals that when take when not necessary and in doses that are more than prescribed CAN and WILL cause serious problems. More disturbing is that we are also finding, more often than I know I feel comfortable with, that even when taken as directed, some medications can still cause serious and even deadly side effects. The moral? Don't take crap your body doesn't need: ~ Eat healthy food ~ Drink plenty of fresh water ~ Sleep well ~ Stay clean ~ & Safe Sex always!!! ...oh and Toke Responsibly! We want you around to bug the heck out of us on these boards for a good long time... ...have a cookie ![]() Mama Budz | |

The thing is I do take a high dose of ibuprofin and/or Naproxen 7-14 days a month (depending on it I can afford the prescription that month)for endometriosis. I can not tolerate narcotics (I get all nauseas and shakey) so i'm pretty much stuck with ibuprofin until I get to t he magical age of 25 where I will be bestowed the infinite wisdom to whether or not I want a hysterectomy. The reasoning of doctors baffles me. Anyhoo, do I volunteer this information? | |

| I did hve a "donor" screen "non-negative" for opiates on a instant dip type of device. I sent the sample in for confirmation testing. The level in her urine was aroung 2000 ng/ml. the MRO gave her a Negative because the level was too low to indicate illegal drug use. Apparently the level indicating ILLEGAL drug use is around 12,000 ng/ml. The level in her system was consistent with what whe said: She told the MRO that she had eaten about 4 large homemade poppyseed muffins the night prior to her test. (random, no notice). Also, I have never asked a donor to list any meds. I, nor any other Collector, lab tech, etc., are qualified to determine whether a medicine (OTC or Prescription) is causine a positive or interfering with a result. I would recommend NOT telling anyone what meds you are taking. IF you test positive, a MRO will call you. He/she is the only one who is bound by confidentiality laws (HIPPA). The Lab tech or collector barely makes over minimum wage and doesn't care. |

Please answer quickly because I have a drug test in a few days and I used medicinally until last night (Sun 1/28). Thanks for any help. |

| I take Celebrex, 200 MG, once to twice a day for arthritis. When the Doc put me on it they told me not to take any asprin, ibuprofin and/or Naproxen while taking the celebrex. I have a urine drug screening test on tues. May 2nd. I plan on using the dilute and asprin method. Because of this I have stoped taking the Celebrex till after the test so I can take the asprin. I am glad you also take tum as I am also taking Zocor for my stomach, I've had 2 stomach ulcsers that bleed 15 to 20 years ago, so the tum will also help make the asprin easier on my stomach. Any problems with these presciption drug and the blood test. And should I list that I am taking both Celebrex and asprin on the questionaire. i am a heavy smoker 5'10" and 200 lbs, medium metabolizium and will have not smoked for 5 to 6 day when they test me on May 2nd. |
