Is there a way to find out if a certain employer does random drug testing without coming right out and asking them? I think being the only employee this company is hiring in the near future and probably for quite some time would cause a red flag if someone anonymously called them and asked. I read through the information here about who does random drug testing, as far as DOT regulated jobs etc...but the 'safety sensitive' description has me confused a bit. Is this totally up to the employer? I mean can't any employer label their positions as 'safety sensitive' if they choose to? What a bunch of crap. I'm starting to understand why I see the same employers hiring constantly. Maybe it's because they drug test . Interesting, I could be a raging alcoholic and that wouldn't be a problem, but all hell's gonna break loose if I smoke a little herb on the weekends..![]() ![]()

No, you cannot be a raging alcoholic and work in a safety sensitive position. A Safety Sensitive Position is: *Airline pilot, flight crew or airline mechanic *Truck driver driving hazardous materials in quantities requiring plaquards *Truck driver driving a truck with a GVW over 26000 lbs *Bus driver with more than 15 passengers including the driver *Railroad conductors and engineers *Coast Guard *Perform maintenance, operate or emergency service on flammable or pressurized pipeline There are a few more positions, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Ask to see an employee handbook or employer policy. That should tell you if they random test or not.

I took a pre-employment test and passed it. I think i remember reading in the application that they can randomly test, so how do they go about doing this. I work in a very large place, (basically a big warehouse) so what are the odds of being tested? Do they pick a certain percentage of employees every 3 months or something like that? How does random testing usually work?

Yes. That is is almost exactly. The can pick a percentage of employees each month, quarter or annually then test them randomly throughout the year. Most of the time, it is done by computer. The employee names are entered into a computer program, then the computer randomly selects the employees to be tested.
