Hey there fellow smokers, Just found out that a urine test came back as positive for Marijuana. I had > 300 ng in my system, when the allowable amount is less than 50 ng. The test was more than 30 days ago, and now I have been clean for at least 40 days. There is an opportunity for me to explain why it was present in my system, but I must do so by tomorrow. Is there any reasonable explanation as to why I might have this much in my system? I understand that there are a number of pain reliever/anti-inflammatory drugs that can give a false positive, but I don't know if they are test specific (ie. only false positive in older tests, or certain brands of tests). My urine was tested by Quest in December '07. Can anyone help me with a legitimate explanation? I understand that 50 ng is more than one would have in their system if they were surrounded by second-hand smoke, so I can't use the Olympic Canadian snowboarder's excuse. Thanks!

ibprofen(spelled wrong) can cause false positives. I would just keep screaming "I don't do drugs, never have" and pass the retest. 40 days should be plenty of time to detox. There really is no definite answer to this question.

No it can't. There is nothing that causes a false positive on GC/MS. Good luck trying to explain 300 ng/ml in your system. That puts you smack down in the range of a daily user.

This is actually no longer true. Ibuprofen used to do this but they changed the enzyme so that only extremely high doses give a false positive. edit: beaten As for the OP's problem, since you know you can pass now I would just raise hell and demand a retest. If you try to come up with a shady excuse that could just make you look more suspicious. Just claim that the test is wrong and since you had such a high amount of THC in your system they will probably believe you.

So I guess that demanding a retest on the grounds that I don't use drugs is my only solution. Thanks for all responses... I welcome all input if there are any other suggestions.

Who do you need to explain this to? The MRO or your prospective employer? If its the MRO, your probably not gonna get a re-test, I think they just ask you the question as a matter of protocol. When I failed my pre employment test last year, the MRO asked me to explain, in a very condescending manner, why there was THC in my sample, I told him " Because I smoked It" DUH Although, I just remembered that the prospective employer told me that I could re-apply in 6 months. Never did though, found a better position at a better company Last edited by Prong_67 : 02-01-2008 at 12:49 AM. Reason: add info

Dude you cant. If you were right above the cutoff, you could claim passive, but you were 6x over the cutoff. There is no other logical explanation except that you smoked weed, sorry.

The test was for a prospective employer and I had reason to believe that the urine test was scheduled for another time. I would have attempted a masking agent otherwise. Thanks all for your input...

masking agent aint going to work bro. test yourself and tell them that they must have mixed your pee with someone elses. And prove to them that your own test was a negative.
