Does anyone know if there is a difference between a "Drug Test" and a "Drug Screen"? I have been told a screen is just where they dip the urine and is used by companies who test on the cheap. And, that an actucual test is sent to a lab. Does anyone have any experience with this??? I just got a call this morning and was offered a good job if I passed a drug screen. As luck would have it I don't have to report for testing until Wednesday by noon. So, I should be ok.

A drug screen is actually an instant or immunoassay test. A screen only shows qualitative results (yes or no).

A drug test is a confirmation and will show quantitative results. (exact nanograms of THC per milliter of urine).

If a lab does a drug screen and it shows negative, it is just called a "negative drug test" even though there was no confirmation done. It simply wasn't necessary.

The companies using instant (dip style) screening devices should send any non-negative result to a lab for confirmation testing. There is no reason anyone should be turned down for a job based on an instant test result.

That being said, if the instant test shows non-negative for THC and/or Methamphetamines, there really isn't any prescription med or medical condition that justifies a positive result for those drugs. If your specimen tests non-negative for opium, cocaine or amphetamines, for example, there are prescription medication that could justify that sort of result. That is the reason the non-negative drug screen should be sent to a lab for confirmation and from there, a MRO review.

I meant Tuesday by noon in the previous post. I went to take the test around 10 am tuesday. The said they would have the results within 24 hrs. (1 week if they had to send it out) Also, there was not a split specimen, just one small 60 ml tube. I am crossing my fingers and praying. I used asiprin the nite before and the morning of and drank one of those detox drinks about 2 hrs before the test and drank crap loads of water and took a couple of vitamins. I also used on of those dip screens to see if it was negative or positive, Anyways, the dipstick showed 2 lines, although the 2nd line was very faint. And the instructions said 2 lines meant that it was a negative. I hope so. I had not been smoking for a few days, since saturday and then it was only a couple of small bowls that I only took like 3 hits off. Man, I am praying like there is no tomorrow that I passed.

OMG!! I PASSED!!! with only 18 hrs to clean out. I used asprin, water and XXClean detox drink. I was called at 12:53pm on Monday. Tested at 10:00 am on Tuesday. And got the call that I passed at 10:45am on Wednesday that I passed and set my start/orientation date. I am so happy I could pee on myself... BTW- Blonde-Overweight @ 230lbs-5' 5".

hellooooo!!! ok i have a quick question. i went to take my usual random at labcorp the other day and i intialled at the usual places on my urine sample and asked why i dont initial at the label that said "split". the lady said this is not a split test. what does this mean for drug testing. do they only split if its positive: need infor. thank!

All DOT tests, and some non-DOT employers offer a split specimen test. That merely means that if the first vial containing about 2/3 of the urine specimen sent to the lab is tested. If it is found to be positive, adulterated or substituted, then the donor has 72 hours to tell the MRO to have the second vial (containing about 1/3 of the urine specimen you provided and sent to the lab) sent to a second lab and re-tested for the same thing.

It all comes from the same void, so if your first test comes back as positive, adulterated or substituted, and you smoked pot, adulterated or subbed, there would be no reason to have the split sent to a second lab as they would find the same thing. Also, most employers require that you, the donor, pay for the second laboratory if the first result is confirmed.

Your test must not be Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated.
