I am a semi-regular smoker who smokes one or two one-hitters 3-4 nights a week. I am looking for a new job and might possibly find one that requires a drug test, so I am basically trying to decide if I need to quit now (Havent smoked in 5 days) or if I can smoke a little (once or twice a week) and then stop completely once I get called in for an interview. I know that no one can tell for sure how long it is in my system, and the best advice is to totally stop smoking, but I am hoping for some guesses. I am 5'11, weigh 151 pounds, have little body fat and work out 3 days a week. My metabolism is quite fast. Basically my question is though, if I reduce my smoking habits from 4 nights a week to 1 or 2 for the next month or so, would that mean that when the time comes for me to stop totally it will get out of my system faster, or because I was once a heavier smoker will I still need the 30 days or whatever? For instance, right now I'd say I need at least a month free of smoke to feel safe. Like I said I smoked a one-hitter like 4 or 5 nights a week before bed. But if for the next month or two I curb that down to 1 or 2 nights a week, would I probably be safe after like 2 or 3 weeks? or would I still need the same length of time as I would if I just smoked 4 or 5 nights a week the whole time? Hope this made sense, and I appreciate any help. PS- Why do television jobs drug test in the first place? The whole industry is full of stoners and drunks, and we all just try to get around the tests... PPS- Marijuana should be legal.

Why not experiment? Cut down to where you want to be, then get a home test. Quit for 4-5 days and then test yourself to see if you would pass. That would answer your own question without our guesswork. Because that is all we would be doing is guessing. You have the ability to give yourself the exact answer.

I would say quit smoking. There are a few places that will drug test you on the spot during the interview.
