| question regarding turn around time, employer states that if result is (-) dilute, the results could take longer. not sure if the statement as it pertains to (-) dilute means they would require a retest or would send it off for gc/ms, or would send it off for ph, sg and creatine check. can or would they send it off to gc/ms for a (-) dilute, or only for a non-negative result? according to the protocol, if a specimen tests positive (nonnegative) for a substance, it is sent to gc/ms for confirmation. it does not say a (-) dilute is sent for gc/ms. important to know, as diluting too much could trigger a gc/ms? |

| Negative-dilute is a non-negative situation. Anything other than a negative (positive or questionable) will be sent on for GC/MS testing.

Sec answered this question elsewhere and said that negative dilute IS NOT sent out for gc/ms how can a NEGATIVE dilute be a NONNEGATIVE? FROM DOT - Because a negative dilute test result is a negative test, the employer is authorized to have the applicant begin performing safety-sensitive functions. i thought only nonnegatives (positive, positive dilute) were sent for confirmation, and my emp's testing policy says that "positive results" are sent for gc/ms confirmation. why do you think a negative dilute is sent for gc/ms? don't mean to be a pain on this, but this can scare a lot of people. | Here is Sec's post from yesterday - so, given that you were making the statement based on what you thought Sec said, we can all disregard it, right? from SEC: negative dilute's do not get confirmed at the lab. However; employers will either 1. accept a negative dilute as a negative test 2. require an applicant to re-test if they received a negative dilute 3. reject the applicant altogether if they received a negative dilute |

| Cool! I stand corrected. I must have misunderstood what I read before. |
