In PD land we know the unit is incapable of combusting. You shouldn't assume that something some unknown person types on a keyboard and transfers to a website is fact.

Good choice. The PD has created quite a stir in its first year on the market. The builder has had to turn down vape dealers that want to carry it. He can't meet the demand. His site and vapenow are it, and vapenow seems to frequently sell out. The Aromazap, based on the same design, has now copied the Purple-Days shape, but can't match the PD's heat exchanger performance, safety, or warranty. I got tired of my wife hogging mine, so I just got a 2nd one.

edit: after reading the vaporedia, it does say the price was changed (for north america only??) from 150$ to 180$ as of april 2009.

The price went up because the only way the manufacturer was willing to continue producing the vape was by selling strictly through the only dealer carrying it-Vapenow. Other dealers wanted to sell it, but he couldn't meet the demand from Vapenow alone, plus the sales from his own website. Since he makes less per unit when he sells wholesale to Vapenow, raising the price was the only answer. As for why he decided to channel all North American sales through a dealer, the deluge of emails (once the demand for the vape went through the roof) became too much to handle as far as time consumption and stress. The builder, Tom, was retired and had no desire to get back into the working world as far as business demands. He likes to build vapes, not run a stressful business. The plan he's using now allows him to maximize the number of units produced because he doesn't have to deal with a flooded Inbox on a daily basis. The Purple-Days site does still sell direct to international buyers. The demand there is low enough for them to deal with, plus Vapenow doesn't want to do international shipping or deal with other countries' power requirements, as far as AC adapters.

The flood of emails was transferred to Vapenow, and they were having trouble dealing with it too, as well as coming up with a satisfactory system for selling. Every shipment they got was selling out within 5 minutes, and people were getting frustrated, waiting for the 'Buy' button to appear on the site for one brief blink of the eye every week. So now Vapenow has a waiting list. You pay for the unit and wait for it to be built, shipped to Vapenow, and then delivered. That's the system and I don't see it changing. It's not perfect, but it's the best compromise for buyer and seller.

What you have to understand about this vape is that it's not the typical high production model. It takes about 4 hours to build a complete unit. So it's limited production and always will be. He's not willing to hire and train cheap labor. It would degrade quality control and just doesn't make economic sense for him. He builds every unit from start to finish, along with help from his wife.

As for $180 being too much for this vape, that's purely subjective. There have been about a half dozen new ones sold on eBay in the last month or so, at an average price of about $250 (each one was purchased from vapenow for $180). So people have been willing to pay an average of $70 over retail in order to get their hands on a PD now, instead of some unknown point in the future. And this eBay selling has been taking place with Vapenow only selling one unit per customer, for the sake of fairness. It's truly a unique situation in the world of vaporizers AFAIK.

As for comparing the PD to the DBV, they are completely different units. Price wise, the PD is only $12 more when you add shipping cost to the DBV. But that model is a standard sized whip unit, providing the typical big whip hits. The PD, while it can deliver very satisfying hits, has a tiny bowl in comparison and excels in efficiency vs. hits. They're just not comparable vapes. They do complement each other very well, and many people, including me, have both the PD and a 7th Floor vape (SSV or DBV). If you're interested in the DBV, I'd go ahead and buy one. Then if you still desire the vaping aspects that the PD provides so well, put your order in with Vapenow and wait for delivery. And don't bother asking when your number will come up. They have rules-

Except that the PD is 100% RoHS compliant (free of lead and other hazardous materials), and the Aromazap isn't. The PD also has a considerably larger heat exchanger, with more surface area to maintain a constant temp.

Yep. 3 years vs. 90 days is quite a difference. Also, the Myrtlewood version of the Aromazap is the only one that will hold up over time. The other woods they offer are soft woods and those units will not last.
