| The Purple-Days Vaporizer is new to the market this year. I've been using one for months, so a review is overdue. What can I say. I'm an admitted slacker. Now that some other forum members are in a 'purple daze' too, it's time for a rundown of this excellent vape. It's a proven design (a huge update of the Eterra), the size of a 12 oz. drink can and runs on 12V like the Vapolution. Like the Vapo, it's also a top loader, using a 3 3/4" vapor tube (3 tubes are provided) with a very small bowl-average load is about .025g. Yeah that's a quarter of a tenth of a gram. The tubes are #5 Polypropylene-rated for high temp use, FDA approved, odorless and tasteless. The bowl is stainless steel, as is the permanent screen and retaining clips. It's got a beautiful hardwood housing (different woods available), and uses a stainless steel heat exchanger to maintain a steady temp. This heat exchanger is the key to the unit's fine performance (no strain on the heating element even with heavy hits). It has 60 radiating fins for increased surface area. The downside to the heat exchanger is a 30 min. warmup time. It's designed to run 24/7 though (I put mine on a timer) so the long heatup time is only a drawback for portability. Moving from house to house while maintaining temp is not a problem though-just use the supplied car adapter for the trip. The small bowl greatly contributes to its efficiency, and allows for very measured consumption of your herb. Great for medical users. The other big boost to efficiency is extremely low condensation loss. That also makes it very easy to clean-really just the vapor tube. Put the tube in the supplied cleaning bottle with some ISO, shake it up, let it sit awhile if you like, rinse with hot water and you're done. It's not a one hitter. I get several good hits, more with very fine ground herb or if the bowl's topped off with a little kief. Very nice hits for such a small bowl. There's no optional battery pack, but it'll run on the Vapolution BP. No temp control. And even though I never thought I'd go for a vape without one, it never burns your herb. Stays right in the 370-385 temp range. All components are RoHS compliant, meaning no hazardous materials, including lead. Even the solder and wiring are lead free. I know of no other vape that claims RoHS compliance. A heavy duty ceramic resistor provides the heat for the exchanger. The vape is almost indestructable in normal situations. There are some interesting durability tests on youtube. Search for 'Purple-Days Vaporizer'. There's a 3 yr. warranty, but it's highly unlikely to be needed. There's just very little to go wrong with this unit. So far no owners have reported a functional failure. The 12V design and high reliability have made it popular with international buyers. I use this vape probably more than my SSV. The Surfer gets used when I want one of its big hits. I'd say my PD/SSV use is probably 60-40 (might be more if my wife wouldn't hog it ). I know of at least a half dozen others who own both units and also use the PD on a regular basis. It's gained a real fan base at fuckcombustion.com, with a thread about 30 pages long, and many members have become PD owners. Considering the fact that this vape is a real work of art, with a build time that runs several hours, and adding in performance and reliability, I think it's the bargain of the vape world at $150. If the manufacturer ever quits making this vape and sells the rights/plans, I can guarantee that either the quality will go down, or the price will go up, maybe both. If this vape interests you, get one while it's a steal. I mean, a couple of years ago 7th Floor was selling the SSV on eBay for $165. The first price increase will probably be an end to free shipping. So far it's sold at purple-days.com and by Vapenow.com.Here's a vid by New Zealander/fuckcombustion member/musician 'vaporcloud', showing the vapor hits you can get from the PD's micro bowl. The music is his.

| Must say, I've never vapourised so I wouldn't know but that looks a lot more like smoke to me, I always thought vapour was barely visible. |

| I dunno if you can get vapor that thick. I am pretty sure the unit is too hot and it's burning the bud.

| Nice review 5drive. I've been an owner of a PD for about a month now (I think....) and I absolutely love it. I'll have to writeup a mini-review to add. And for the record, yes, you can get very thick vapor hits. I can get hits just almost just as thick out of my PD as my VW. And yes, vapor can be visible without reaching combustion temps.

| Yeah, I have never reached combustion with the PD. I can get it pretty dark brown, but now where near what I can around 2-3 o'clock on my VaporWarez. I can attest for how easy the cleaning of this thing is. I own 5 wands (ordered an extra few) and all of them were clogged. I let each soak in 70% isopropyl alcohol for roughly 2-3 minutes, agitated, then rinsed with hot water. Back to business..... ![]() |

| The only minus with this vape for me would be long warm up time. 30 minutes seem like its easier to build a fire hehe. For me, I would of still went with Da Buddha but for ease of use and with mention of the super long warm up time I do recommend this vaporizer. The other downside is you could not use salvia with this vape as it will not get hot enough, pretty much a weed only vape unless the temp setting coincides with our herb of choice. The owner is first rate and I have not seen any issues that were not corrected by him when dealing with peoples issues. This is a very good quality straight temperature vape that in that class is hard to beat. Last edited by beezleb878 : 11-11-2008 at 03:07 AM. |
