and, 5drive, thanks for all the great info in your posts; several other frequent posters have some great info I know you have been leery about the Digit (vs the Classic), and more electronics is more delicate stuff to break, but this thing looks pretty solid and well-built and I'd think they do a decent job of heat shielding internally. A benefit of the Digit is the precise T control (assuming it works as advertised): a thermocouple and digital logic control - in principle, should be tight; in practice, will depend on quality of thermocouple. We'll see. Trying 387F (~197C) today, btw.

Way back in the 1970s my very straightlaced mom agreed to grow some weed w. me in our back yard.... alas, my very straightlaced dad was, for some strange reason, taken aback by this after I got arrested w. weed (not the stuff I was growing). Did not even let me keep/dry/smoke the weed me and dear-ol-mom had grown. (not sure what my point is here, 'cept life's funny that way; funny and karmic-ly loaded) Last edited by extracrispy : 06-26-2009 at 07:31 AM.

They do pieces on applications of The Medicine to various ailments. I've never found those to be terribly informative, but others may very well find them useful. They also have sections on strains (effects of particular strains, to what illness each is best suited, et cetera). Quite earnest, which I find -- I'm sorry -- rather funny, but as a protostoner it just seems to kill some joy to go all stuff-and-nonsense about the chron. (if you dig what my knowledgebox is blowin around) <......... meanwhile, back at the ranch ............> OK, I'm back to earth........ that 'cano's growin on me. alas, I must chat w/ [i.e., make a presentation to] my great-great-great-grandboss in just a few hours, so I'd best signoff..... wish I could just bring along my volcano, or perhaps the Surfer in the shoulder bag, and settle differences that way.... sorry for the (almost) midsummernight's ramble. (PS: your moniker sounds like a novel and advanced battery formulation.... not one I'd like to get into a car-crash with, tho. Peas-out.) Last edited by extracrispy : 06-26-2009 at 06:41 AM. more data, though, now and, as a confirmed data junky, I can't help myself:... Regarding Temperature Settings on the 'Cano: I've settled on 380 F as a good starting point; get a bag out of it, then I up it to 382, or so, and pull another. Then I generally toss it into my ABV jar -- I use a folksy fruit canning jar w/ an oldtime rubber seal, apropos of nothing. I tried some higher Ts -- up to about 395, I think -- and ended up w/ smoke, eventually. Of course, the temps are nominal, not actual, most likely, so your mileage may vary. But, I've certainly found *my* set point, anyway. On the Digit: it is remarkable (although not surprising & the scientist in me is in awe at my naivete...) that the T adjusts so fast when the control is changed. Not if the air pump in running, of course, but in quiescence it takes, like, less than a second to jump a degree up; a little longer to drop a degree. Natch', it should be fast, since it uses a thermocouple and digital control. I just don't expect such high tech from my weed tools. (gotta jam and get my dog high -- is that safe? I mean for him: not worried about him narcing on me or telling my kids -- he's eating a permanent Sharpie and it seems to be staining his teeth blue....) XtraC

| So happy for you! I have had a Volcano for a couple of years and though I use it almost daily, it still looks and feels brand new. Enjoy!!! |
