You don't smoke from a vaporizer. You inhale vapor. Yes it's better to smoke kief only, since you have to smoke less to get the effect. Just like a high quality strain is better for your lungs than brickweed. More concentrated means having to use less.

The reason you get higher from smoking is because you're inhaling smoke byproducts that make you sleepy and dizzy. One is a solvent that gives an effect similar to sniffing glue, although much milder. They're low doses of poisonous compounds. You get a couple of active cannabis compounds as well with smoke, but most of your 'better high' is due to toxins.

People vaporize because it's healthier and usually stretches your supply. The high is different. Whether it's better or not depends on the effect each person is looking for. A lot of people appreciate the lessened couchlock effect. I know I do. Vapor is much easier on the lungs too, and that was even more important for me. Of course if you're young and don't have any respiratory problems, the health aspect probably doesn't mean much to you. There is an adjustment to the difference between smoke and vapor, and it makes it a lot easier to really appreciate the vapor high if you just go with vapor only for a while. But the huge increase in the number of vaporizer manufacturers and resellers in the last few years is proof that a lot of people are making that adjustment. Some go 100% with vapor, and some keep smoking to some extent. Some don't mind the smoke high but don't want the harshness and taste of smoke anymore, after vaporizing for a while.
