question : what the hell is a vaporizer?

While the temperature is too low to ignite the plant matter, it is sufficiently high enough to boil off or “Vapourize” the desired chemical constituents. The resulting vapour is inhaled for an effect similar to combustion smoking

Hello all

I see this is a very old thread; looking for updated info. I am on a serious vaporizer search. The old lungs are getting seriously taxed and I need to get help-but there is so much info and so little time to read it all. I need in a vaporizer: 1: EASE of use, no time to fuss around 2: not something huge, I have kids, I have to hide it! 3: price is a factor, but I would spend up to maybe $250 to get the right one. I even thought of the Volcano but it is huge. Discretion maybe should be 4; I often "sneak" a hit after work and I have heard "no odor" is another plus.

Can I really get all this? Or as close as I can? Does ANYONE have the udated info?

You really did exhume a long buried thread. I also turned to vaping for lung relief and it's made a HUGE difference. Vapor is so much kinder to the body than smoke.

There really isn't a vaporizer that's perfect for both ease of use and stealth. You're going to have to compromise in some way. There are two basic types of convection vapes, and you do want convection-stay away from the gumball/fishbowl looking vapes. They cook the weed like a hot plate. With convection you get heated air passing through the weed for a much more efficient process. With bag delivery (like the Volcano) you get the ease of use. It's easy to learn the process and all your hits will be the same. With a whip vape there's a learning curve to getting good, consistent results (and you'll never get the the same consistency as with a bag vape), but you can get hits where the vapor is thicker and tastier than you'll ever get from a bag.

A good alternative to the Volcano, especially with your requirements on size and price, is the herbalAire (around $250). You get the same vapor in a bag result with a unit that's 3.5" wide at the base and 6" tall (7.5" with the main moutpiece). Of course the inflated bag will add another foot to the height. But you can make your bag pretty much any size you want. You can also use it like a whip vape with direct draw, but the taste is not there like with a real whip vape. I just use direct draw with it when I want a really quick hit, since the heat up time on this vape is quite short. I've been using this vape nearly every day for going on two years, and I can highly recommend it for ease of use and quality. The company is based in Canada and has given me outstanding customer service. As for stealth, it's a lot of stuff to put completely out of sight on a regular basis, since it does have a separate small aquarium type pump to fill the bags. An alternative to hiding it would be to disconnect the pump tubing (very easy), remove the main mouthpiece (just pop it off), put a small, maybe slightly curved piece of glass on top, and presto, you've got an aromatherapy diffuser you can leave on your coffee table.

The whip vape I'd recommend in your situation is the V-Tower ($159). Although I've only had one of these for a short time and haven't posted a review yet, it works very well, it's about the same size as the herbalAire, and comes with an additional potpourri bowl, so it doubles as an aromatherapy device. Your herb stays between the bowl screen and the whip screen, and the glass bowl makes it easy to see what's going on inside, and you can keep your weed stirred up with just your lung power. With the potpourri bowl in place, you just have to hide the whip and you have a great stealth vape. I love this feature, and so does my wife.

Other whip vapes also are available with an aromatherapy bowl-the Silver Surfer, Vapor Brothers, Vaporwarez, maybe a couple more. They all may suit you for stealth as well and they all work like a standard whip vape. IMO, the V-Tower has the cleanest design and would prompt the fewest questions as to what it is.

There are butane powered vapes the size of a large pipe-Vaporgenie ($50), but more difficult to get good results. The Vapir Oxygen Mini is small and battery powered, but taste is not satisfying and a digital display and rather large battery pack bring potential problems down the road.

You can google any of these models to find pics and info from dealers/manufacturers. The V-Tower is hardest to find. Check arizer.com/ for a pic and basic info. He sells via 800 number or in his ebay store-just search on ebay for V-Tower vaporizer. Most vape dealers sell on ebay at a discount, so your best prices are there. Thank you for all the info. I am going to look up the V-Tower. I had been looking at Silver Surfer. Started thinking the BC was the way to go, now that looks not as good, I can't even remember why. And I am not even "compromised" in any way (kids here this wknd).

PS maybe it is just me but that bag, that looks totally scary and weird. Like" Blue Velvet". I like the idea of the glass wand, I think. Best I can surmise anyway.

I maybe crazy but I still have not gotten hip to buying anything on eBay that cost more than an antique plate (which I do buy from time to time). When something is over $200 how do I know I can return it, or warranty, etc. I think I would rather buy from manufacturer direct.

The BC vaporizer (my first vape, I'm ashamed to say) is exactly the type to stay away from. The Surfer is a geat whip vape. I think it would spark more attention from visitors (and children) than the V-Tower though. As for vaporizers on ebay, what I'm saying is the best and most dependable dealers AND manufacturers pretty much all sell their same products (with the same warranties) on ebay at slightly better prices. It's great exposure. In fact, I've seen several vape makers (with excellent products) go out of business, and the biggest thing they've had in common is that they never sold their vapes on ebay. Certainly makes you wonder. If you decide on the V-Tower, djelimon can give you some tips as well. I'm sure he'd be glad to throw in his 2 cents worth. Good luck and welcome to vaping. I'd say refer to that video in the review post. When the glass gets hot, the black strip on the bowl is safe to touch.

Lately I've taken up doing short sharp inhales rather than long draws. You can see the vapor collect in the whip chamber, and disappear as you inhale.

Still no complaints, but you have to be careful with glass. A nice accessory would be a traveling case.

I got the Oxygen Mini as well, and it is good for stealth if you have a jacket with some inner pockets. No odor. Taste not so good.

For my final portable stealth solution, I'm looking at the volatizer, or at least watching the price.

Good email response (all around good customer svc), but I haven't contacted them by phone. I assume he sells at the same price as his ebay store-$159 delivered. I'd buy some extra screens when you order (even though screens last a long, long time compared to smoking). They'll be cheap and no extra shipping.

In using this vape, keep in mind that although you can make your ground herb fly around in the 'tornado bowl', the harder you hit, the more air you'll pull through the vapor path, and the more you'll lower the vaping temp. I usually take a hard puff now and then just to stir up the bowl contents, but a nice 'slow and easy' hit will give you the thickest, smoothest, vapor. That's just the way it works with direct draw. You give up the consistency of the bag vape, where a pump or fan provides a steady air flow, for the inconsistent, but sometimes thick and tasty hits of a whip vape. If you use this vape for potpourri or essential oils, use the lowest heat setting and inch it upwards if you need to. You'll be using almost the highest (5) setting for vaping.
