| Hey all, finally nice to see a marijuana forum with a decent post number, now I can get replies ![]() Anyways, here's my story: Due to asthma I have had to cut down quite a bit on how much I smoke in the past few months. A friend told me about using vaporizers to smoke, saying that they wouldn't affect my breathing. Now I know you guys aren't doctors (though I am a self-proclaimed Bongologist), but does anyone have experience with vaporizers, and would they really not affect my breathing? I don't think they would because it is not smoke, just a nice THC vapor, but want to be somewhat sure before I buy one. Thanks guys |

| vaporizers are one of the healthier ways to ingest marijuana. like you said, they do not affect the lungs because all you're inhaling is vapors. a vaporizer would definitely solve your problem. |

| wutup bongzilla i think its excellent to hear more stoners taking a grasp on their health (man, does that sound right? im stoned and i kinda feel my vocabulary getting twisted . . . ) anyways, onto the topic of vaporizers: (btw - ever considered eating it once in a while?) most vaporizers u find, will not be as effective as a quality vaporizer, i personally believe in V-Rip and am soon to hook one up for myself (tight funds) also ive heard very good things about Eterra vaporizers the V-Rip system is kinda expensive, seeing as you have to hook up: - heat gun - a VCB bowl thing (lol) - a bong with a slide that the VCB bowl thing can attach to which if u dont have and depending on quality can range from 30$ to a whole system that could go to 250$ at cheapest . . . lucky for me ive scrounged around in the garage and found a heat gun and may only end up paying around 90$ (lol) Eterras should go for around 50$ but what the hell do i know? im pretty stoned so i could be way off on estimations but it wouldnt hurt to do a search on Ebay and google to check out what everyone has to offer, find the best deal and hook it up for urself, itll save u a lung or two donkeysmell ![]()

| I know, many of my friends don't care about their health, but after you wake up from a SWEET night of toking and you find it hard to play breath for a week afterwards, you begin to not take it for granted ![]() But can't you just by a vaporizer setup that is ready to go? The ones I were looking at seem to look like a gumball machine, they have the base w/ heating element and a clear dome that collects vapor... I ate weed for about 2 months, but that is wa-ay too expensive, even though I smoke for free quite a bit. You practically have to starve yourself for two days and eat your body's weight in the stuff to get high But what a high it is ![]() |

| ay yo. you can get the vaporizers that look like gumballs in one of three ways. First, though i assume you've already tried this and failed, you can go to a local head shop and ask to buy one. Second, if you have 50-80 dollars to spend, you could go online and get one. Go to google.com and type in "marijuana vaporizer" and you will come up with a bunch of pages that sell them. These URLS might be blocked, but if they aren't, go to either club13.com or vaporizer.com. Both sites sell vaporizers. Finally, if you want to spend only about 20 dollars, you could make a ghetto one. You'll need a soldering iron, a metal bowl that will fit over the soldering part of the soldering iron, some sort of stand and a collecting dome. plug the iron in, turn it soldering part-up and place it in the stand, sprinkle weed in the bowl, and place the collecting dome (if you really are ghetto, use a 2 liter bottle with the bottom sawed off) over the bowl. once some misty vapors collect, inhale the dome's contents. also, if you go to yahooka.com, you can find out how to make better versions of this design. However, i got a couple of things to say. All the gumball type vaporizers take a long time to vaporize the weed. some take as long as 45 minutes a bowl. Other versions are inefficient due to poor build. This can make vaporizing unpracticle. But, versions that use heat guns, like the eterra, vaporize quickly like a normal piece. If you do a search for the eterra at google, you'll find the page where you can buy an eterra. It is pretty expensive, but if you're serious about vaporizers, buy this mofo. Also, if you wanna be ghetto, you could buy a heat gun at sears for like 40 dollars. To vaporize, just use the air that comes out of the gun in place of the flame of a lighter with any bowl you have. The optimum hot air temp is around 400 deg. fahrenheit. Hope this shisnit helps. {Moderator Note: Please, do not leave physical links to commercial sites.} |

| Thanks man, that was some good shiznat ![]() I have all the materials to make a ghetto one, but I think this Saturday I am going to head on down to a head shop and pick one up. 45 minutes is pretty long, but I think I can be patient ![]() So have you used one? Apparently since you aren't burning it, you aren't wasting anywhere near as much THC as you do in a joint, so it will be efficient and should get me a nice high. |

| i have used a bunch of different vaporizers. The high from the gumball ones is different than normal highs It's more energetic, and there is less of a burn out. Some people like this, some people don't. Like i said, not all vaporizers are as efficient as normal pieces cause though not as much THC is destroyed by heating it, the vapors have to collect in the dome, and some of the THC settles out on the inside of the dome. However, this settled out stuff isn't completely wasted, you can scrape this stuff off like resin and smoke it, to the best of my knowledge. Some vaporizers waste more, some less. Some vaporizers are actually more efficeint than a normal piece. I hope you get a good one at the head shop. Also, try, if you can, to get one that vaporizes fast. |

| It is important to keep in mind that there is little solid evidence to support the claims made regarding the efficacy of Vapourizers. That said, what credible evidence does exist is very promising. Here is a little info on how Vaps work. When plant matter burns, most of the "smoke" is made up of cellulose fibre, or, the plant structure. This fibre it turned into tiny particles that creates most of what is visible as smoke. The chemicals housed within the cellulose fibre are released into the smoke stream as vapour. Other constituents of the smoke stream are by-products of the combustion process. This is where many of the most toxic chemicals associated with smoking are found. Additionally, there are several gasses formed by the combustion process that are noxious (carbon monoxide for example) Vaporizers subject the plant matter to far lower temperatures than combustion smoking. Therefore, the plant matter doesn't break down nearly as much. Vaporizers reduce the production of particulate material and many of the chemicals that are produced at higher temperatures. These reduced levels have been confirmed by acceptably reliable laboratory tests. Most of the theories applied to Vapourization come from organic chemistry. The act of Vapourization is similar to standard laboratory processes used to isolate the various chemicals in plant matter. While Vapourizer technology is far from this level of sophistication, there are some good products out there and better ones are emerging all the time. The most important thing you should do before buying a Vap is do your research. Learn as much as you can, because there is a lot of junk out there. Hint: Stay away from devices that use copper, aluminium or plastics. | |
