Default Replacing screens in VaporBrothers-type vapes

I'd avoided replacing the screen in my VB whip because it looked like a complicated operation. I was afraid that I'd get the old one out and not be able to get the new one in, leaving me vapeless. Instead of replacing the screen I'd been flushing out the whip with alcohol, in which cannabis resins will dissolve.

Yesterday I flushed out the whip and it still looked ugly in there. I had made the mistake of trying to vape some roach material and it had gummed up the works. Apparently, some of the combustion byproducts in the roach vaporize at a higher temperature than the cannabinoids. The tar got hot enough to melt but not to vaporize. Yech!

The original plan was to use the eraser ends of two pencils from either end of the glass whip to maneuver the new screen into its internal groove. I found that the glass was thicker and the hole thinner at the hose end than I had anticipated. I found that I could get the blunt end of one of those bamboo yakitori skewers through that hole, so I used that instead.

To replace the screen you need a 0.75 inch fine-mesh stainless steel pipe screen. You can find these in most "smoke" shops. You shape the screen into a cup that's just a bit too big to go down the throat of the whip. You want the cupped screen a bit oversize so that it will spring back into the groove when you push it down the whip's throat with the pencil eraser.

Getting the oversized screen into the whip is a little tricky. If you don't get the eraser exactly in the center of the cup the screen will have a tendency to turn sideways.

One thing you can do to prevent this is to insert the skewer from the other end and catch the screen between the eraser and the skewer. This would be easier if humans came equipped with three hands. I put the skewer in a vise, held the pencil with my dominant hand and the glass piece with my other hand.

When I got the screen in position I found that it was too small in diameter to fit tightly into the glass's groove. The steel didn't spring back as much as I'd thought it would. It didn't fall through, but it rattled around in the groove. I figured that it would allow particles to pass through if I didn't get it tight.

Here's where the skewer comes into play. Use the pencil eraser (preferably in a vise) as an anvil to back up the screen in the whip. Use the skewer, blunt or sharp end, from the other side to reshape the screen to fit tightly in the groove.

The new screen made the whip draw much more easily. I looked at the old screen under magnification. The solvent flushing had opened up the holes in the screen but left them smaller than the holes in a fresh screen.

It's well worth replacing the screen but it's delicate work. If I'd been engineering the whip I'd have had a two-piece unit joined by a bayonet joint. When it came time to replace a screen you'd twist a quarter-turn, pop out the old screen, drop in the new one, and twist the two pieces back together again.

If anyone has come up with an easier or better way to accomplish this maintenance task, please post it in this thread.

Thumbs up vapor bros. trick

this is my first post, and i hope it is useful to those of you who have a vapor bros. vaporizer. Like Buzzby said, replacing your whip's screen can be a tedious operation, but it can also be very rewarding. Here's a little trick I came across the first time I replaced my screen. remove your screen as instructed by Buzzby, but hold off on replacing the screen for a second. Instead, take an herb nugget with a circumference a little larger than the circumference of the glass whip. Next carefully push the nug into the tube. "Squeege" the nug from one end of the whip to the other so it can collect all the vapor resin that has collected up on the walls of the glass whip. You can push the nug through the tube with the Vapor Bros. skewer, or any other stick. the finished product should be a small herb nug coverd in vapor hash. I think it tastes excellent when smoked, so try it out if you can. After removing all the resin from the whip, simply replace the screen as Buzzby previously mentioned. Hope you guys try it out soon! peace out.

i use to have a vaporizer it was more like a phase i got tired of extracting thc from smoke (health wise) i once vaporized an entire dime bag of chronic finished it all in 3 hits, the high lasted strong and long for about 3-4 hours. pretty good stuff if you have a lot of weed. But i think smoking it and getting those hazardous toxins makes the high much stronger. plus u need less weed. I would only be left with very drike black pieces of ash that one you touched them they would disinigrate into powder. id sell the stuff to my friend @ half price of 5 bucks it got him nicely stoned...

If you exhausted a dime of chronic in three hits your vape was much too hot and you were burning up much of the THC. A vape at the proper temperature leaves you with a light brown crumbly material that smells like popcorn, not black ash.

In my experience, you can get high at least twice as many times on the same amount of weed vaping it as opposed to smoking it.

I know this an old thread, but a good one. I despise changing the screens in my whips. I was messing with it a good half hour last night. I was hoping there were some better tricks. I use a pencil eraser on the top (brand new pencil with eraser never used), and a straightened paperclick up through the bottom. My screen always ends up on the sides, and I'm fighting pushing trying to get it in.
