Default Vapor Brothers questions

i did a search and i still cant come up with the info i need so i thought i would make a new thread to ask people who also own the vapor brothers unit some questions.

1)is the screen replaceable without buying a new whip? if not how does one clean this thing?

2)i read that turning it on and off alot causes the filiment to die quicker, is this true? should i at least put it on low when i am not useing it? would it be ok if i turned it off twice a day so other people could use it in diffrent parts of the house? also how do you go about fixing the filiment if it breaks?

3)is the 12 oclock temp is the correct temp for MJ?

thanks alot.

The screen is definitely replaceable. It's a little tricky but with practice it's pretty easy. You need two "pushers", one close to the inside diameter of the bowl end and one close to the inside diameter of the hose end. I started out using the eraser end of a regular pencil for the big one, graduated to one of those fat pencils first-graders use, and am now using a piece of wooden dowel, the end of which I've filed and sanded into a convex curve. For the skinny pusher I use the blunt end of one of those bamboo skewers they sell for grilling shrimp and other little stuff.

1. Run hot water over the junction of plastic hose and glass to soften up the hose. Carefully remove the hose.

2. Using the small pusher, push out the old screen.

3. Clean the class with rubbing alcohol, cotton balls, and cotton swabs.

4. Form the new screen into a mild cup shape. Use the end of your little finger or the end of the shaped dowel.

(The next steps requires three hands or two hands and a vise for the skinny pusher.)

5. Center the screen over the big end of the glass.

6. Center the big pusher over the screen.

7. Put the skinny pusher through the glass until it contacts the back of the screen.

8. Keeping everything lined up, move the glass very gently over the big pusher until the screen snaps into the groove in the glass.

I use two methods that are about equally effective:

1. Fill a small cup with rubbing alcohol or boiling water with some dishwashing detergent.

Disclaimer: Don't be stupid and suck rubbing alcohol or boiling hot water into your mouth.

2. Suck enough of this liquid into the whip to fill the glass end and part of the hose.

3. Blow it back into the cup.

4. Repeat #2 & #3 until the screen is as clean as you want it to be.

5. Rinse with clean hot water.

This is true of any device that uses a resistance heating element, including light bulbs.

That would prevent a lot of the thermal shock, reduce electrical usage, and reduce warm-up time.

The amount of difference it would make would be minimal.

I don't think it's a user-serviceable part. Consult the manufacturer.

There is no set temperature that is "correct" because neither the temperature control nor the heating element is calibrated. You just have to feel your way around until you find what works best with your machine and your stash.
