Default Dead VaporBrothers!

The evening of Christmas day my VaporBrothers vaporizer died. The lights were on but it wasn't producing any heat. It was only 20 months old.

I got ready to pack it up and send it in for repairs and then thought better of it. It had bits of weed and resin stuck inside the heater column. Was I going to put this thing in a box with my return address on it and send it to a vaporizer manufacturer? I believe to do so might be in violation of Federal marijuana laws! Do you think I'm being overly paranoid? (A dog would alert on it in a second.)

I figure the VB has paid for itself several times over in the amount of weed I've saved over 20 months. I vape or smoke every day and the last quarter pound I bought lasted a year! The VB machine comes with a 90-day warranty and after the first 30 days you get charged for repairs. I looked at a very similar machine, the VaporWarez, which has a 5-year warranty, a switch separate from the temperature control, and a user-serviceable heater column - it unscrews.

I ordered the VaporWarez machine. I'll post back here when I've had a chance to test it out.

Yeah, unfortunately length of warranty won't really matter because it will never be too wise to return it after use until legalization happens. The other benefits sound great though. Maybe when the new one eventually wears out you will be able to service it yourself and avaoid the problem.

Good luck with it. Keep us updated.

I wouldn't be surpised if you could fix the old one by yourself. Sounds like you have power but the element isn't connected properly. Maybe a little resoldering will do the job. Either way enjoy the new vape.

One of the attractive things about the VaporWarez machine is the heater cover that unscrews. If that feature was on the VB machine I could clean it thoroughly and send it in for service. The heater cover is a glass tube on both machines, but on the VB there's no way to separate it from the heating element.

Maybe I am being too paranoid. The quantity of residue can't be more than .01 gram but I don't know if there is a lower limit on what is considered a chargeable amount. Does anyone know?

The heater assembly is replaceable but the company won't ship the part to consumers. They insist that the machine be sent in for service. If I get five years out of it I'll be more than happy. By then I'm sure there will be new vaporizer technology that I'll want to try.

I ran a continuity test on the heating element and got no current flow, so it's like a burned-out lightbulb - it can't be fixed. The company won't ship replacement heating elements and even if they did I couldn't open up the assembly without breaking the glass sheath.

Default And the verdict is...

...I like the VaporWarez machine better than my late lamented VaporBrothers vaporizer.

1. It heats faster (ready in 3 minutes v. 7 minutes).
2. It recovers faster (back to temp in 20 seconds after a toke v. a minute).
3. Once you find the desired temperature you can leave the rheostat set for it because the machine has a separate on-off switch.
4. The screens fit flat v. cupped in the VB machine, making them easier to replace.
5. Removable heater cover enables cleaning and heating element replacement.
6. 5-year warranty v. 90-day warranty.

The only drawback I've found is that the heating element can be too efficient. The other day I was down to the end of a load. I'd powdered the contents to get the last microgram of goodness out of it. I took a toke and suddenly orange flames and smoke started to shoot down the hose towards me! Due to the finely divided particles, the heat, and the airflow, my powdered weed ignited. No harm was done, but it scared the hell out of me! The problem can be easily avoided by turning down the temperature control when you get down to vaping powdered weed.

The only time anything like that happened with the VB machine was if I overloaded the whip so the marijuana was close to touching the end of the heater. My accident with the VW machine happened with 1/16th inch of powder on the screen, as far away from the heater as possible.

has anyone noticed how many fraud websites or companys there are on the net to do with marijuana products and a ton of marijuana.com users backing them up its hard to believe anything on here anymore:\ this is why we need marijuana to become legal its too close to crime and other more fucked up drug users for it to be safe for us to buy anything related to weed

Have you noticed that the internet is full of con men and bad businesspeople? It has a lot more to do with the fact that it's an unpoliced frontier than with the illegality of marijuana. Posters on Marijuana.com both support and lambaste various businesses; sometimes the same businesses. It all depends on their personal experiences. If a person has a bad experience with a company they often assume that the company is crooked when it might well have been a fluke or an honest mistake.

I've been doing business over the internet for 20 years and have only had one bad transaction (in '86). If you only do business with reputable, established companies and on auction sites with sellers who have developed good feedback you should have no problem. One of the beauties of the internet is that it's fairly easy to research how good or bad a seller has been in the past.
