| I am an 18 year old male, and I recently had pneumothorax while in school. Basically, I was born with a small hole in my lung that air could escape from. It did, and eventually, it prevented 40% of my lung from inflating, thereby collapsing it. At this point, I hadn't smoked for roughly three months, and was taking a little break. I got a chest tube that was supposed to drain all the air in 3-4 days, but it was 14 days and nothing happend, so I had to get surgery. They cut off the tip of my lung where there were air bubbles ready to burst, stripped some lining on the inside of my chest, restapled my lung shut, and attached it to the lining. It wasn't as bad as it sounds, but regardless, the procedure is done and my lung cannot collapse anymore. I've heard of a lot of people smoking after pneumothorax, even though I was urged by family members not to. I think I'll eventually smoke again, however, I don't really want to inhale smoke now. It just seems like an awful idea, and I don't think my body would take that kind of stupidity. Besides, the coughing would really hurt at this pont. I recently got urges to smoke. Again, I haven't smoked since Week 2 of the NFL season (to put it into perspective, it is now week 18) and just simply want to get that buzz back. My friend let me borrow his volcano vape, but questioned whether or not using the vape would alleviate the problems and be a good idea. I was wondering if I could get the take of some others on my situation. Would using a vaporizer be safe for me? I'd appreciate some input. |

| but my limited experience with them shows them to be the most efficent, as well as safest means, of ingesting cannabis.

| There's no right answer here. The conservative thing to say would be "never smoke or vape pot again." But the danger is not really from the smoke or vapor but rather from the force of excessive coughing on your recently healed lungs. But are you expected never to cough again in your life, say if you get a cold or inhale some dust by accident? Of course not. The surgical procedure you had is supposedly a definitive cure for your problem. I would go easy, and for reasons that I cannot back up with true evidence, I would tell you to vape instead of smoke, but only because I'm partial to vaporizers. But again, just try not to cough up a lung, i.e. take slow, short vape hits, and you should be fine.

| Hey I have the same condition kinda. Ihave spontaneous pneumothorax. Chest tubes twice, surgery once. After sugery the lung collapsed again but only 5%. Still hurt like hell. I'm a cig smoker to boot. D umb I know. You take your chances but my lung has held up for 9 years. Don't sweat it, but be aware of the consequences. |

| Ive been a smoker for almost 20 years now, and almost all of that time its been thru water pipe. About 1 year ago i suffered spontaneous pneumothorax - first a total collapse of the right lung, then 3 days later, the left lung collapsed. I remember the doctors asking if i was a pot smoker - i had to tell them no, but my dealer visited me in hospital, with some pre-rolled joints, and i'd disconnect my chest tubes (intercostal catheters) from the suction , and sneak out for a joint. My left lung had to be cut and stapled (bullectomy), then stuck to my chest wall (pleurodesis) to prevent any future collapse. It's been a stiff and sore 12 months, and I was scared to smoke a pipe for a few weeks after discharge from hospital. Although i woke with my both pneumothorax's, I've read that changes in air-pressure inside the lung can help a pneumothorax to happen - so i dont pull hard in my pipes anymore - and I'd say a vapourizer would help on that front. The doctors also told me that my lung collapses happened because blisters (blebs) in my lung popped and allowed air to escape out, and while all people have blebs, smokers have more. So all smoking is bad for the lungs. My educated guess: With a vapourizer, you'd be less likely to pneumothorax, and survive to suffer emphysema - so bring on legal THC pills !!! Hope you're ok now and have got the confidence back in those lungs |
