A vape is a simple device to repair, and even easier to troubleshoot. You're replacing a part or sub-assembly. With the SV, the fans aren't too expensive-around $50. The digital controller will run you $200-250 (and I got these prices straight from Wicked Roots). So potentially, your expensive controller could die the first time you use it, and you'd have to ship it back and pay another 2 bills or so to get it going.
I was going to ask you if you've ever had your car repaired. (To illustrate that labor is typically the majority of the cost.) Then I read further into your post, and it seems you may be a do-it-yourselfer type. Nothing wrong with that! Personally, I'd rather know I have good parts, and have someone else fix what they designed in the first place (should that ever come up). Just a different perspective on "ownership and maintenance".

Beyond that perspective lies the question: Are the parts good in the first place? & Does anyone own one or has owned one for a while that can vouch for their longevity?

...which brings us back to this thread and tokentogan's dissatisfaction with the volcano. Many people have vouched for its longevity and effectiveness. I think in the case of this vape unit, the volcano, either the unit is brokeass; the technique needs refinement; or tokentogan needs a fvck of a lotta weed to get high and should take some time off and try it again.

...if the unit is brokeass, I believe both manufacturers (volcano and sv) put a basic warranty on it arriving in working order.

Well as for parts vs. labor costs on a car, it all depends on what you need done. There are a lot of different systems on a car. If you're having electrical problems, you could pay big bucks for labor to replace a 10 cent part. Or installing new struts on my car is very labor intensive, but the struts themselves are twice as expensive as the labor to install them.

With a simple whip vaporizer, you've basically only got two things to go wrong-heater and glass. The main thing likely to fail is the heating element. On most vapes these days the heater is very reliable and should last a long, long time. That's why you see some whip models with 3-5 year and even lifetime warranties on the heating element. A manual heat control is a simple device that's not likely to fail. Glass is never covered-it doesn't fail-the user breaks it. But when you have electronic temp control with digital display, there are a lot of little parts, any one of which could fail. And they're not going to troubleshoot to see which little part failed and replace it. They're going to replace the whole assembly. Why? Because it's easier and safer. The part that failed may not have been the cause of the failure, but the result. Another part, still apparantly in good working order, could have been the real culprit. In that case, replacing the burned out part will just result in another failure, maybe after the unit is returned to the owner. And even quality parts can fail.

So for me, give me some kind of parts warranty if I have to depend on electronics and fans. The Natural Goods digital vape (sold by Vaporstore.com), which works just like the Super Vapezilla, has a one year warranty. The Vapor Matic Deluxe, which gives you digital, and whip or bag delivery, has an unprecedented (for vapes anyway) lifetime warranty-parts and labor. And both of these units are two hundred less than the SV.

Fair enough. I'm the guy that will just pay for the labor when it goes hand in hand with the expertise. I've lived long enough to know I shouldnt personally work on cars or electronics or any combination of the two.

Do you know what wattage the NGDV goes up to? I've been looking at a lot of the vapes, and another feature about the SV that I do like is the really high wattage (400W). Is it a power hog? Yes. Do I think that will make it come up to and stay at temp much easeir? Also yes.

Although some might view the high wattage as a negative, I think for this application, its something that is needed. I've heard the Vapor brothers only use like 60W. Again, I recognize most might say "Less power, yay!" but in this case I feel the wattage is needed. (and why the vapor brothers has such a variable temp when under heavy use)

Anyone know what the Volcano wattage is?
Vapolution wattage?
EDIT UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Vapolution and I will say this, they were very nice, very helpful, willing to explain their product. They also said their unit only uses 12W. Is that possible, how 12W can bring something up to just shy of 400 degrees?
