I just picked up a Vapor Brothers not the newer hands free one but the old two handed model. I have had some very sucsseful sessions with it but other times I can't seem to get any vapor. Some questions I have is how hard you should be sucking. I have herd it depends on the temperature but does sucking hard increase or decrease the temperature. Also I have noticed i seem to need a much higher temperature setting but this could be because i am sucking so hard. Also since i have the hands free device should I prime the whip and should I hold the whip on the element for the entire session. Lastly when I am finished the bowl should it be all brown or just mostly brown and should the bowl end of the whip be very hot. I know some of these questions may have already been answered somewhere else but none of the threads seem to have all the information since there are so many different types of vaporizers. P.S. - I know i should be packing the bowl 1/3 full but how densly should it be packed. I dont own a grinder and am just using my fingers to grind it up as best as i can. Is there anything else i could do to pack the best bowl. Should the weed be dry or moist and does it matter how dense it is?

Hey man. I dont have a vapor brothers vape but i have a hot box which is the same concept. The slower you suck the hotter the air is because it stays in the heated area (whatever it may be) longer. I usually grind the herb with my grinder very lightly so it isnt a powder but its fairly ground up. And then i pack it at a medium to tight pack. If you go too loose it will burn way to quick but if you go too tight it might be hard to get air through it. So pretty much you just have to try a bunch of different ways to see how it works best, as every vape is different.

It's a big adjustment going from smoking to using a whip type vape - really any vape that's not forced air. When you smoke, the harder you hit it, the more smoke you get. It's the opposite with a vaporizer. When you suck hard you're forcing more cold air into the heating chamber, which lowers the temp. If your temp control is set to where the actual temp at the heater is say, 350F, and you hit it hard, you could easily lower the temp to the point where it's too low to vaporize. And turning it up anywhere near maximum is not a good idea to compensate. Some heaters can be damaged by leaving it set too high for too long. And you can vape it 'til the weed is black and you're getting smoke instead of vapor if you want. But if your reason for vaping is health and not stealth, take it easy on the temp. Use the lowest setting where you get good vapor. Ideally, you should take a couple of deep breaths, then hit it nice and easy. Your vaped weed should be medium to dark brown, and yes, the bowl will be hot. Dry, ground weed will vape faster than a moist chunk, both because it's dry and ground up. Powdery weed will actually vape a little slower, because air will have a harder time getting through more dense material. Less in the bowl is better for thorough vaping. If you pack a big bowl you'll have to stir it up a lot, and you'll keep hitting weed that's already been vaped. If you don't get a lot of vapor (or none) on the first hit, it's OK to keep holding the bowl to the heater tube, but after you're getting good vapor, and you've hit it a couple of times, keeping it on the heater tube between hits is not a good idea. That's why I think 'hands free' units are overrated unless you're vaping with friends. And don't be surprised if your vape is hotter, at the same temp setting, after it's been on for awhile. You'll get used to the ins and outs of whip vaping with time. There is definitely a learning curve.
