So 5drive... do you use this unit? I agree that there arent (right now) a lot of alternatives. Hopefully there is someone out there with a better idea. There are some nice features with this unit. The taste thing is the hard one to get past. If we widen our gaze to include non electric models. then we have 01_home or VaporGenie $45.95 or Vapman Portable Herbal Vaporizer & Jetflame Lighter, Portable Herbal Vaporizers I have no first hand experience with any of these. If I get a chance to sample these I will post results. mtm

ok... now that the awful taste thing is past... i have been using this unit exclusively. It works... and it works well. I am looking around for other portables but this definitely has some features that are better than anything else out there. The digital readout is handy... the stiffness of the new plastic is loosening a bit... it is easier to disassemble now... the loading process is- just dump in the material ... cleanup is relatively easy and the fact that the material comes out nicely browned out... tells me that it IS efficient. So does the 'different light on the day', if you know what I mean. The other portables out there appear to be conduction rather than convection... not as easy to regulate the temp when using the lighter... so until the better product comes along... this might well be the best one out there. Up til now I have been using the AC cord... I am charging the battery pack to see how that will work.

isnt that battery pack extraordinarily large? Like a box of batteries wrapped in plastic or do they have better than I saw on a vid now? The battery pack looking so awkward is what turns me off with it but if they get better battery packs that would be cool.

The battery pack is like 10 AA batteries (2 rows of 5) all bound together. I guess the size of the battery pack is offset by the convenience factor of being portable...again personal preference.. it has to charge over night so will report tomorrow. mtm

someday we can say thinks like back in my day our vaporizer batteries were like a pack of 10 batteries bound together and we had to walk up hill both ways hehe. As battery technology improves in time this will get better. Just maybe be awhile. Thanks for the input and looking forward to the review.

As mentioned the battery pack is the size of 10 AA batteries all wrapped in an electric green plastic thng with a 6' cord.. all charged and ready. Well it works just fine. Not really any difference other than not being tethered to the wall. Hard to tell how long the batts will last.. I heated it up, took a couple hits and then unplugged it. Not what would be considered heavy usage. Reckon at that rate the charge should last a good while. Definitely effective. Holy cow.

Is this vaporizer worth getting when it comes down to it? I live at home and can't really own a big vaporizer cause it would be annoying to hide and deal with.
