Should i be able to see what I exhale when using a vap? And what are the perferred temperatures for vaporizing?

Yes, a little, but not remotely like when you smoke.

Temperature ranges depend on which vape you're using...

Here's the best info around on vaping temps, assuming you've got an accurate digital vape (and I don't mean a <$100 digital box off ebay), Volcano, herbalAire, etc. where an indicated temp setting would be somewhat reliable. Otherwise just go for a temp that leaves your leftovers brown and not black.

You can get some nice vapor exhales, especially with a whip vape, but like sterbo said, vapor isn't usually as thick or visible as smoke. And sometimes it takes the right lighting to see your exhales. If you're new to vaping, be sure you don't hit it too hard. On a whip vape a hard draw will pull a lot of cold air through the heating chamber and you can lower the vaping temp too much. Then you won't see any vapor on exhale, 'cause you're not getting any on the inhale.

here's my $.02. There are times(a lot actually) that you will not see a thing as far as vapors go on any particular hit even though you have a little of the taste in your mouth of the herbs. I recently was wearing a LED headlamp that fits on you head like a sports band(think coal minor, I use them for everything they are great way to have hands-free lighting) and with the WHITE LIGHT(not yellow light like a Mag Flashlight) from the LED shinning down from my forehead it revealed a ton of vapors not visible to the naked eye. It was revealing in the fact that the vapor could only be seen in the light path and further out at the end of a big exhale showed no vapors. In fact the LED headlamp showed that there is Always some vapor if you take a hit, especially at the end of a bowl when you might think theres none left. In fact you could hit one bowl for an additional 20 invisible hits(as long as you don't scorch it) and in reality the LED light would show you all 20 had vapors in them. Now it's not to say your getting great hits but invisible vapors are there a lot if you taste anything. Regardless of what your eyes see I think your getting something but invisible vapors are very small hits so you at least need 5-7 visible hits on any given bowl and then the are an additional 4 that are invisible but are actually delivering worthwhile vapors. Beyond that is the last 10% of a bowl divided by and additional 10 hits< if you were so bored and inclined to milk the living &*@! out of a bowl. So we've answered the question "If I don't see any vapors am I getting anything" as a YES and they have value at the end of a bowl. However if you don't see some vapors with the naked eye then your going to get dizzy from hyperventilation on all the hits you'd need to get there.

I only smoke legal herbs, when I come to these forums and discuss things like smoking and the high one gets I'm referring to the feeling I get from legal herbs and have no information on what others are smokeing or reffering to. I don't smoke marijuana but do enjoy discussing and talking about legal herbs and the high from different legal smoking methods and all my post should be viewed in that light.

I always get a big cloud of white vapor when I get a big hit. As the resin cooks off, the cloud gets thinner and less visible. When it's very faint, I know that I'm near the end and grind up the load between my fingers to get the last couple of hits out of it.

As for the temperature, you can do very well flying by the seat of your pants. If the weed ignites, it's too high. If you don't get any vapor, it's too low. If you stay near the low end of the usable range, you get very mild hits and it'll take more of them to get to where you want to be. As the temp goes up, you get heavier hits. As you get towards the high end of the usable range, you get very heavy hits that can be harsh and contain some volatiles that might better be left in the residue.

Adjust the temp in the range between no-vapor and ignition to get exactly the effect you want. My usual setting on my VaporWarez is about 5 minutes before midnight, where I get a good balance between strength of hits and mildness. At 5 past midnight I can get ignition, especially if the weed is finely powdered.

Hmmmm....I've yet to have ignition with my vaporwarez....and ANY setting. I have the hands-free model, but I never just leave the whip attached for long periods......I remove it to stir between hits, and if I'm not actively vaping, I just leave the vape on and remoive the whip. I start about 10:30 on the dial, and as I vape the load, slowly crank up the heat. Normally, I don't go much past 2:00 on the dial, but I have with no combustion issues whatsoever. Even when "re-vaping" leftovers (i always keep my vaped weed, as I've found you can usually get a few more vapor hits out of every load at a later time....beats smoking pipe tar, I know that much!) that are basically powder though, I've never burnt weed to a point where its black.

AS for visual vapor.....yeah, I see a HUGE cloud with my first hit or two, and then as I vape the load, the visual vapors decrease with every hit until theres nothing there at all.

It sounds like the rheostat in your unit must have a much smaller range than the one in mine. Or, maybe, the heating element is different. At 10:30 it would take me 30 hits to clear a load. At 2:00 I'd be smokin'n'chokin'.

When you're expecting vapor and get a big hit of concentrated smoke, you feel like you're going to lose a lung!

Weird....you wouldn't think there would be a wide range of differences with the same brand of vapes....maybe the handsfree and the orignal versions are slightly different? oh well.... We both know what works for us, so its all good. All I know is that I'm clueless as to how I survived without a vape as long as I have.....But I just HAD to try vaping before I could bring myself to spend $140 on a cannabis untensil that wasn't a sick bong of some kind. Luckily Iloveunot happened to introduce me to the wonderful world of vaping, and I just HAD to have one!!

I would think that altitude would probably play a roll in the level at which you would set your vape as well. It could explain some of the differnce in the heat range.

Also you'd have to take into consideration how long the whip stays in contact with the heater tube, the screen position in the whip, how much is loaded, and the moisture content of the weed.
