| Hi. I just got my SSV yesterday so I might not be using it correctly. When I turn up the heat, I turn the knob about 2/3rds of the way to full. After two minutes it's ready to vape, but if you smell near the heater, it smells like something is burning, almost like burning rubber or something. The metal inside is not burned at all, so I was wondering if this smell is normal or if there should be no smell at all. Also, I had safety concerns because the SSV is made out of aluminum and I know that's linked to alzheimers. Do you think having the heater so close aluminum causes the SSV to be unsafe? |

| burning rubber? ive never heard anyone say anything about that, and ive had extensive exposure to many units. the anodized aluminum that the shell is made of poses absolutely no health risk whatsoever as the heating element gets nowhere near hot enough to start "cooking" the aluminum. the maker of the units is a man that holds health concerns at the front of his mind, and goes out of his way to make sure that every peice of equipment is top notch in that regard. edit...if the smell persists, i suggest contacting them through the email or phone number listed on their site, their customer service has always been great for me.

| The metals used in decent vapes (and yours is definitely one) do not outgas at vaping temperatures. Since it's new I'd leave it turned on at vaping temp for a half day to a day (preferably you'd be at home). It won't hurt anything and may burn off anything that may have been accidentally applied, spilled, whatever. If you still have the smell from an empty vape you may have a problem.

| Ok thanks for the help. I've had it on a couple hours now and it definately smells better. I think my problem was I took the instruction book too literally. They only tell you to leave it on for 10 min initially and the smell should go away. I had it on a couple hours, but I guess that wasn't enough. I'll try it out again tonight. Thanks guys. ![]() |

| It says on the directions that come with the vaporizer that before use you need to turn it to high power and leave it for 10 or more minutes to burn off the oils that are naturally on the ceramic heater.

| Yes, that's why in the post before you I did exactly that. Unfortunately, 10 minutes isnt nearly enough time to make that smell go away. It took me between 4-6 hours for the smell to finally be all gone. |

| As tokinGLX said, your lingering smell is not typical for this vape. If I were you I'd let the guys at SSV know about what happened with your unit. It may be just a fluke, but OTOH there may be some quality control procedure they could institute or improve on. They're a small company and I'm sure they'd appreciate the feedback. | you can also take the glass tube off and clean it in alcohol. Just make sure that the glass is room temp. Throw it in a tupperware container of 91% alcohol and let it sit for a bit, pull it out, wipe it down/dry with a soft cotton lint free cloth. |
