I've been using my Volcano (non-digital) for several months now and find that I usually get mild throat irritation regardless of weed type. I'm setting the dial at what I think is around 365 F (according to instructions). The residue is brown to greenish-brown, so I don't think I'm burning it.

In addition, the high is never as strong as I get from just smoking a J.

Any suggestions?

365 F would be approx. 5.5 on the dial. I usually vary it from 5.5 to 7.5 depending on the bud and # of times I've vaped off of whats in the chamber.
Regardless, 5.5 ought to work fine with fresh ground bud.
Irritation can occur for a couple of reasons.
1- if the vapor in the bag is older than 20 min or so.
2- the bag needs changing.

The color you describe is correct though the 'green' is material not yet vaporized.

The 'high', I have found, is rather different than that which I experience when smoking but I (and most people) get every bit as high vaping as when they smoke.

Make sure that the screen on the insert piece that you drop into the filling chamber is kept well cleaned. Use rubbing or denatured alcohol from any market etc. Otherwise the bag will not be able to fill properly due to the resin clogging the screen.

I like to vap my bud three times on the volcano. First one is at 5.5, next one is at 6.5, and the third one is at 7.5. If I'm really trying to milk it, sometimes I'll turn the dial up to max for the last bag, but I find the reward isn't too significant. These settings always get me ripped and never hurt my throat. I'm usually pretty high off of the first bag. Definitely try cleaning the screen, replace it if you gotta.
And remember to save that ABV for some brownies or something.
