hey guys,
I've had my vape for about 4 years, it's just a typical brown box vape with glass/hose extention. Now I used to just vape my bud until it was black but reading on these forums that isn't very healthy. I'm trying to have it at a temp that will just brown the bud but here is my problem.

Going clockwise, anything 1130 and beyond(like 12, 1 or 2) will completely char the bud black when I inhale
but
if I put it at around 10-11, it does brown but I barely see any smoke when I exhale. Can the vaped bud smoke clearly be seen?(like it is when I have it at 12 oclock when it blackens the bud)
It seems I can't find the middle ground. Should I maybe preheat my vape longer(usually 10 minutes at 2 oclock to heat things up, then put back down to 11 or 1130 for a couple minutes before I put the bud.

It sounds like one of two things. Either the calibration on your vape is way off, meaning that you get higher temperatures at lower settings, or you're drawing too slowly, which gets the weed much hotter than drawing fast.

Vaping should produce zero smoke. The first several hits off of a load will produce a visible white vapor when you exhale. If your exhale smells smokey, you're vaping too hot.

I typically set my VaporWarez around 1:30, put a 1/4 inch of weed in the vape, and draw as fast as I can. I get three or four strong hits and a couple of weak ones. What's left is medium brown.

Your starting point on the dial is about 7? And your herb is burned at 12 o'clock? Not good no matter how you're hitting it. After 4 years I'd say it's time to get a vape that has a decent vaping range.

I don't know. If I load a lot of weed into the whip and hit very slowly at 12, I can get ignition. If I load a 1/4 inch and hit it as hard as I can, I can get vapor at 2 and no ignition. So much depends on how much you put in the whip and how hard you hit it.

So to clarify. When I inhale, there shouldn't be any white vapor(like the left over vapor in the tube/glass extention, but when I exhale there should only be white vapor for the first hit or two, and seemingly nothing after? Also you recommend inhaling hard and fast?(is that quick drawing), and you get about 4-5 hits per bowl?

Hard concept to open up to, more like get used to, the fact that little vapor is good.

I'm trying to find a Vape FAQ thread on the proper way to hit/handle a vape.

I've never gotten smoke at a normal vape setting, I'll certainly agree that a slow, easy hit can bring a lot of heat and overcook. But you should be able to dial back the heat a little and take the easy hit. Or draw harder. And if 12 is too hot then 10-11 should be fine for getting plenty of vapor. A whip vape is all about experimentation. You have tried changing it up haven't you Julez? Have you read Buzzby's thread on toking techniques? I'd hate to think that in 4 years you wouldn't have found the right method. I'll give you some credit and point some suspicion at that "typical brown box vape".
