I put that for the heading because that's the name of the video but the cop did threaten to break his arm if he resisted arrest.

This video shows how things will go if you cooperate with the officer or start problems with them. If they are going to make an arrest they will make an arrest but these guys were going to get cut a break until someone caused the cop to change his mind.

If he was so desparate to assert his masculinity he could've warned him not to curse before locking him up and forcing the state to spend $n on his incarceration. I wonder what sort of bill his egotism will run up in the course of his career.

I really hate seeing this kind of thing. There are people who deserve to be incarcerated, and there are people who don't. There are officers who treat people respectfully, and there are those who don't.

These sorts of videos polarize people around their own perceptions and mis-perceptions that don't do anything to further rational debate and logical discourse on any subject other than some people are just pricks.

I hate the broad generalizations that tend to result from seeing these kinds of things. The right wing nut is gonna say, "See kids are trouble." The antiestablishmentarian is going to say, "See cops abuse their power." In the end, no one gets anything new from the discussion, except maybe a migraine.

Well, maybe, you might be able to make the case that everyone just needs to take a toke and chill out and try to act like a nice guy instead of a jerk.

Both the kid and cop went overboard IMO. Never give a cop a hard time and give him reason to get pissed off at you. He can always manufacture a charge (if he's not on video) if there's not one already available. OTOH I've known of drivers who have gotten stopped and talked disrespectfully to a cop, or thrown a fit (including cussing), and the cop has shown restraint, even to the point of just giving a warning ticket. But cops are always expecting someone to give 'em a hard time, so it's best to be nice and swallow anger or frustration. You're a lot more likely to get a break, and I mean a good break, not a broken arm.

The kid pretty much asked for it, he wasn't even getting arrested...
About a week ago I was smoking with a bunch of friends when an undercover cop came up to us. Needless to say, we were all scared out of our minds, just having smoked and my friend still had some weed. The cop was strict with us but treated us fairly and we answered all questions asked while being respectful to an officer who WAS simply doing his job... After a few minutes the officer made us throw out the remaining weed and he let us go.
All the while the cop was questioning us I kept thinking in the back of my mind "Am I under arrest? Should I answer any questions? The officer did not read me my rights... can this be used against me?" Luckily, the cop decided to cut us a break for cooperating, a similar deal to what this kid could have gotten (after all, the cop originally asked if the kid had a headache and if anyone had meds to give him... the skater brought it onto himself by insulting the officer).

Ps - I do not condone police brutality and the fact that the cop later threatened to break the kid's arm if he resisted was chilling... I skateboard and would've been bummed if this happened to me or anyone I know.

I disagree completely with anyone who says this cop did nothing wrong. First off....how the fuck are you gonna put someone in jail for skateboarding? Its one thing if people are going around fucking breaking windshields with skateboard..but are you gonna arrest a fucking 10 year old kid for skateboarding. Give me a fucking break...the cop is the one who should be in jail. The government is completely corrupt and all the people in it should be jailed for violating the constitution CONSTANSTLY...EVERY SINGLE DAY. Whether or not its a law that people cant skateboard...the only authority a police officer should be able to have is to say that you cant skateboard...thats fucking it. There are people in jail who kill and rape people..and your gonna throw a skateboarder in there with them? So since it is a law that they cant skateboard..it makes skateboarding a crime? The kid was absolutely fucking right saying the cop was being a fucking dick does anyone thing he wasnt?

I don't agree with the law banning skateboarding in the town... but the fact that it IS a law doesn't make the cop a bad guy, he's simply enforcing the law.

I am aware that my marijuana use is illegal and I understand the consequences of being caught by a police officer. I'll think he's a dick, sure, but he's merely a pawn of the legal system, faulty as it may be.
