I guess its true, ignornance IS bliss in some cases. I, for one, see judging an entire group of people by one trait they have in common akin to racism. After all, the only thing all people of a certain race have in common is skin color. Is that really a reason to judge them? I think the world would be an even uglier place if we were all so quick to label and dismiss entire groups of people because of a single trait. I could understand if that trait was cannabilism, and they were planning on making me a midnight snack. However, to judge someone soley on the basis of whether or not they are religious just seems pretty damn ignorant to me. Theres so much more to an individual than his or her spiritual beliefs. I'm not saying you should embrace other people's beliefs, but to flat out dismiss them as a person because of their beliefs IN ONE AREA is just stupid to me.

Maybe you should accept my belief then And racism is a little different, biologically race is nonexistent, and no one chooses to be born black or white. Besides, religion isn't a trait, it's a belief. Should I be accepting of people who embrace the idea that 1 + 1 is 3? Nah...also, I never judged anyone, I said I'd throw all religious people in the same group. What's wrong with that? Where's the judgment? Aren't they all in the same group anyways, they are all religious, no? Somehow you added me being judgemental of others into there, comparing it to being racist, and all that other jazz.

For the most part, I would tend to agree with your logic. But man... Take a long, hard look at these people. Would you really feel comfortable with a group of people who honestly believe that-
A. if you are not part of their 100 member church, you are going to hell,
and
B. if you do anything except wanting to die, you are going to hell?

A lot of you may not like the military, but without them, we would all be speaking German right now. Sure, yea, love and peace and all that crap, but the rest of the world doesn't look at it the same way you do. A lot of you may not like Jews, but without them, you wouldn't have Christians OR Muslims. Without the Torah, there would be no Bible OR Koran. If you are Christian or Muslim, hating Jews is like denying your heritage, it's just ignorant. These people are obviously fruitcakes, highly uneducated, and ULTRA close minded. I'm sure if you spent just 10 minutes around these people, you would be singing a different tune.

Someone once said something about judging people by the content of their character... and when that content contains fallacious beliefs about reality, and a refusal to change those beliefs when presented with evidence to the contrary(faith); that seems to me to be worthy of contempt.

This is the difference between skin color and religion. Also, racists are held with contempt by everyone? Who is going to support the racists? Nobody. Why? Because they have flawed beliefs about reality. They believe that skin color DOES matter. How is this any less flawed than the belief that "God hates fags" or "God puts soulstuff into into zygotes at the moment of conception"?

This woman should not be destroyed, and the property should not be destroyed, but she certainly deserves contempt.

This was the best part of the whole exchange:

Hannity: I am Christian, I don't hate God.

Shirely Phelps Roper: No you're not, but go ahead.

This women is a TRUE Christian, she follows the scripture, including that part that says:

Anyone that permits homosexuality violates the Word of God and is not a Christian.

Moderate christians that cherry-pick the more acceptable portions of their scripture are nothing more than covers for those who take the words literally. How can we be surprised when dangerous religious fanatics keep popping up if we continue to support even the most harmless flawed beliefs?

Well.... Most modern Christians believe that the teachings of Christ supersede those of the Old Testament. Most educated Christians also realize that all the books in the Old Testament were passed down by word of mouth for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years before they were actually written in the form of text. If you have any scientific background what so ever, it's easy to see that the world could not have been made in 168 hours and that the Earth is obviously older then 6,000 years old.

Then is the Old Testament irrelavent? Does Jesus teach accpetence of homosexuality?

I am not aware of any Christian Scripture supporting tolerance of homosexuality, so I would think the Old Testament stance on it stands.

It's a pick and choose religion, people get to pick what they like and remove what they don't like; they get to choose if it's literal or symbolic; they can say creation was real or that it wasn't; that hell is a real place or it isn't; it makes it impossible to talk to someone who can switch things like that so much, it's irrational.
