One, its the only one that made me laugh (and not in how rediculous it was)
Two, it strikes me as mtv is satirically telling people not to smoke weed
Three, Nobody turns gay/Gets with sibling because they are high, maybe they wanted to do it in the first place and used being high as an excuse

It also made me laugh. The actual message says "if you are going to get high, just don't drive".
Just because the script calls for a really shocking attention getting tactic, doesn't imply that getting high will cause you to have homosexual or incestial tendencies.

It worked, it got your attention, didn't it? Too bad you were laughing too hard to see the actual message.

I think that's exactly what it does, making it as much of a joke as the PSAs that suggest that your brain on drugs is like an overcooked egg, that smoking weed will cause you to "accidentally" shoot your best friend, or that getting high causes you to commit acts of sexual lunacy.

What has made all of these PSAs totally worthless is that kids who smoke pot know that these implications are totally off base, making the "point" (not to smoke and drive) a joke.

The only PSA I've seen of any value is the one about sitting on the couch while life passes you by. That's a real danger that people can relate to. It's not telling you not to smoke pot. It's telling you that a lifestyle devoted to smoking pot leaves you out of a lot of other good things.

If you want to get across the message not to smoke and drive, it would be much better to show the Teenage Trifecta™: boys, smoking in a car, getting pulled over by the cops. Getting put into the criminal justice system is a real danger resulting from smoking in cars. Frenching your brother is not.

Yeah buzzby I think the only effective anti-marijuana/drug psa that would succeed would be one showing kids getting pulled over and cops finding a substance in the car, and then showing kids going to court and then sitting in jail, for it is one thing that kids can see themselves in. The one with the guy on the couch as the world passes by is good by enforcing a choice, but i think it is only useful in a society that doesnt illegalize marijuana, but rather encourages society against it.

Despite the fact that it's illegal, a very large percentage of young people smoke pot. Why not try and teach them that a balanced life is better than a drug-oriented life? Almost 90% of high school seniors say that it is easier to get marijuana than it is to get alcohol or tobacco.

I totally agree with both of you. It would be wayyyyy more effective if they showed the kids getting caught with possesion. Thats reality. Im sure that if i had a brother, and we got high together, i wouldnt french him. No way in hell that would happen. No matter how high i was.

I think you may have mis-interpreted it Buzzby. This is also what I thought as I watched the PSA, but the tag line that sec3 pointed out changes it.

IMO, The message is that the only thing you shouldn't do is drive. Go ahead, kiss your brother if you want to, but just don't drive.

Exactly, i mean come on who thinks of that shit. They are telling people to stop smoking, when all the writers for these ads are high off acid, they are the ones seeing aliens and shit, making dogs talk and what not.
