| This was from Fifth Gear (I believe), a British automobile-oriented TV show. Interesting results, I think.

| BTW, pretty sure the program is Top Gear, not fifth gear ![]() It's interesting though that they did this...this kind of thing would NEVER make it on the air in North America, at least there is a bit more open discussion in the UK it seems... Anyways, I've only ever driven high 2 or 3 times and it was a few hours after smoking and it was only a short distance. I personally noticed myself being less aware of things around me, and I got surprised by a car that just entered my vision a lot more than I would have if I was sober, but that was back when I was only smoking on weekends. Now that I've been smoking regularly for a few months I bet I could smoke a normal amount and drive fairly well. I still won't be doing it just because I don't like to risk my life or anyone elses and it just seems like a pointless risk to me. |

| Fifth Gear is the version that made it to US TV, namely Speed channel. This was recorded off Speed Channel (as evidenced from the logo in theupper-right corner). Top Gear is the beter show, though.... Fifth Gear was more straightforward automotive information. That's not a BAD thing, but Top Gear does more stunts and wacky things. |

| The video is showing that people aren't driving crazy after smoking a joint and driving. I've driven stoned a few times and 30mph did seem slow for me. Sometimes i caught myself driving under the speed limit. There was one commercial that was out awhile back sayin that teenagers who drove reckless tested positive for marijuana. Like teenagers don't drive reckless These people could have smoked pot a few days or weeks before crashing, it would still be in their system, then they drive reckless and because they had pot in their system they try and tell the public that the person was under the influence when they drove reckless and that marijuana made them do it. They are right about alcohol, i was younger and drank and drove, it's not cool, but i would be lying if i said that i didn't drive fast while under the influence of alcohol. Driving stoned made me do the opposite, accelerate less and be more cautious. I don't like driving stoned and don't really do it anymore because of the cautious paranoid feeling like was described in the video, i can relate to that. When i smoke i just like to be at my friends houses or my own relaxing and watching tv and not worrying about anything. I've talked to people who have driven after drinking alcohol and then talked to those same people asking them about when they drove stoned. Alcohol made them want to drive faster while marijuana did the opposite and they drove more cautious. The things that the government says marijuana does to people, IMO i think they get their results based on what alcohol does to people. We know that people who drink alcohol are more likely to drive reckless than someone who has smoked pot. I always felt wild and full of energy when i drank. They should also show how many of the drivers that drove reckless were guys or girls. When we get our license we pay more on insurance than a girl does because it's known that we are the ones that drive the most crazy. Some girls could drive reckless too but i had a teacher tell us the samething. I don't think anyone should drive under the influence of anything, but people will go to the bar and drink 1 or 2 beers and drive but even driving fine on 2 beers and passing a road test, if they give a breathalizer test, your legally drunk at 2 beers because of the .08 level. I don't agree with that law either because even if your at the legal age to drink and if your not intoxicated to the point where you can't walk let alone operate a motor vehicle you shouldn't be arrested because of 2 beers. I don't know how the hell they could make a test for marijuana. The guy smoked a joint and passed tests such as walking a line, no different than someone who drinks 2 beers or a little more and walks a straight line but still gets charged as bein intoxicated if failing a breathalizer test. Sometimes cops offer those to people even if they do pass field tests. Someone could smoke a joint and pass the field tests but if they make some sort of saliva test to give the people and the person walks a line and passes other tests, if the cop says well here i'm going to give you the saliva test to see your limit, oh you failed it, alright your under arrest now for bein intoxicated. If people are driving fine and pass field tests and prove they could operate the motor vehicle they shouldn't be charged for a dwi wheather it's from alcohol or another drug such as marijuana. |
