Okay, there are far too many mistakes with this "theory" which shows you really CANNOT couch something like this in "layman's terms." Dopamine is one of the most complicated neurotransmitters active in the brain. He describes it as a "dopamine antagonist" which simply isn't accurate at all. It debunks the entire "theory." Animal studies with extremely high doses of THC don't show increased DA or its metabolites in the nucleus accumbens, which is directly associated with rewarding behavior and addiction. It translates to no increased dopamine, period. "I've had problems with it before." Well then, you sir, are weak-minded. Plain and simple.

He has the effects right, because he claims he's smoked pot. Lack of hunger I thought made sense that you overeat a shitload when you're high... Idk if he's heard of the munchies but yeah. Lack of sleep I wouldn't know because I've always had sleeping problems. I do get grumpy after I'm done smoking and being high for a while, though.. But I dunno enough to be able to explain that. Even if what he's explaining is going on is correct, who says an "over-production" of this dopamine... is what causes addiction? If that happens, just because that happens doesn't mean that's how you get addicted... also IF he is correct, would that be why they call pot, "dope"?.. why wouldn't they call coke, "dope"? Though his symptoms of not smoking for a while after previously smoking are correct in relation to me... I haven't smoke in like a month, and I'm certainly not showing signs of addiction like becoming cold or craving weed or anything. In my opinion, the fact that a lot of us (including myself) can go without smoking, is proof enough that marijuana isn't addictive. It IS addictive in terms of wanting to have fun because it's a fuckin fun as hell thing to do, but so are video games, computers, anything you find fun... and I think a lot of us have realized that already.

To me it also kind of seems like he's trying to get credit for something rather than spread truth. There are better theories and things to care and concern about than an essentially safe drug like Marijuana(even though not everyone believes it's as safe as some[or many] of us believe)... especially things that aren't so easily proven wrong like this. | |

I'd go so far as to say it's bad research because thought he found a one-way answer to marijuana "addiction" and spun it as "fact." There's a difference between a fact and a perceived truth. There's at least ten different chemicals acting on the brain when you smoke. Not only is his "theory" too limiting, it's also looking at the wrong mechanisms. Dopamine activation in the necessary centers of the brain for addiction simply do not happen with marijuana.

This guy is a freakin moron. "Let's say our smoker decides to stop smoking weed right away, let's take all the THC out." Bullshit. Your body stores the THC in different areas (your fat cells) so that when there's no THC coming in, there's still a supply for when the brain is craving. So unlike nicotine, which is just "GIVE ME A DAMN CIGARETTE AND STFU!!" Coming off of marijuana is WAY easier because even tho you aren't smoking, your body is still pulling THC to kill cravings. Right? That's the way I always understood it. I've had to quit smoking a bunch of times and never had a problem. I've tried to stop smoking cigarettes also, and goddamn.. Nothin doin. Also, tons of chronic pot smokers quit all the time for weeks at a time just to clear out the THC and get the brain functioning normally again (most often so they get way more trashed when they smoke again, LoL). Marijuana addiction is not a problem, IMO. I've never had, or knew anyone that had a HUGE STRUGGLE to kick weed. It's pretty damn easy, you don't get edgy or bitchy and it's nothing like cocaine.

The only way I see Marijuana as being addictive is as psychological addiction. But it only applies to specific people in some circumstances. Compare it with video games for instance. Your body doesn't crave it, but you simply enjoy doing it. Except with marijuana, some people people treat as a big deal and can't simply just drop it, but other people treat it like it's as normal as any other everyday thing. Same with video games. Some people will enjoy a video game drastically and can't put the controller down, yet some people appreciate its qualities and have other things to do. Was it just me, or did that guy look like a midget in a regular size body? Just compare his face to a midget's, lol. And yes, buy some freakin' tweasers.
