Ok, here we go......Just like every asshole cop out there, this guy isn't a prime example of a Marine. Just like your hatred of cops, Vicki, I think this goes way too far. Yes, the guy in question is an ass. No one will argue that. However, I'm not about to lump ALL marines into the same category just because trhis guy pissed me off. He doesn't represent what the Marines are about any more than Rodney King serves as an example of an Afro American. You can't pick ONE INDIVIDUAL and use it as the basis for disrespecting an entire group of people. I judge people for their actions, not what "group" they belong to

Just because i tell a racist joke that orignated in the 1800's doesn't make me any less of a racist for repeating it. Its still inapproprate, no matter what era in history its from. Just because its old doesn't mean its excusbale. Whats the logic behind that? "I didn't orignate it, so its OK to repeat it" is what you basically said, which makes zero sense to me. I didn't come up with the word C$#T either, but I damn sure could offend a few women if I called them that, couldn't i? See my point?

My comments are not racist in any way. I was exposed to the military all my life, listening to Marines take jabs at Navy, calling them "Squids", and Navy striking back with those other comments. It was like an expected thing. I guess since I was exposed to it, and know that Marines and Navy know all about this little animosity thing, I thought others here would too. Actually, dedbr did acknowledge it, and we talked about it privately.

Also, this STILL goes on with active Navy and Marines. Ask any of them. None of them see it as racist in the slightest way. It's like they enjoy taking jabs at each other, and they compete to get better at it. None of them would compare it to being racist, or calling a woman the "c" word.

You should verify what I am saying for yourself before you start condemning me.

I put it out there because it seemed to apply to these particular Marines. Unfortunately those Marines were reinforcing those sayings by their actions. Actually, their actions were worse than those comments. As far as I am concerned, that man/Marine is scum for doing what he did. The heartless bastard.

I see absolutely no difference in what you said and what I said. The only difference is what group is being disrespected by another who for whatever reason feels enitled to feel that way. The whole meaning of what you had said changed the second you stated you "didn't like marines". That takes it out of the context of members of various branches of the armed forces merely giving each other some ribbing. I know that goes on, but they don't preface it with a comment about truely not liking the other branch. Besides, sometimes whats appropriate for branches to rib each other about isn't always appropriate for a civilian to do. It has a different meaning, almost in the same sense a lot of Afro-Americans don't take offense to the N word when its used within the race. When taken out of that context and spoken buy a white person, suddenly the way people interpret it is going to drastically change

Obviously, you aren't hearing anything I am saying. I am done trying to explain this as only military would understand. And, this has steered way off topic from the original topic of tossing a puppy off a cliff, so I am ending this.

I now understand how glorious felt earlier when people misunderstood their intentions for making this thread in the first place. glorious, I apologize to you for misinterpreting your intentions, and I removed my groan.

An explanation for poor judgement doesn't mean that poor judgement should simply be overloooked. I could explain WHY I got arrested for DUI, but thast shouldn't excuse the behavior

And as far as the "See the soldiers? see their actions?" Would that allow me to make comments disparaging all Alaskans and justify my statement "I don't like Alaskans " if one happened to be filmed humping a dead moose? All I'm saying is hold the individual responsible, not everyone associated with that person.
