Default Delta Blues

(Dumped this here considering the focus is the video, but I'll leave it to the mods to decide.)

For those who don't know the story, there was a scene back in the thirties of 'Delta Bluesmen'. Very little was recorded during that period, but what was picked up by record labels working in the fifties and sixties. The following video is of Skip James performing "Crow Jane" and was recorded while he was in prison; standing up against a cell block wall. I consider his music to be the most beautiful and inspirational I've ever heard- this track and this performance in particular. For the guitarists amongst us, just look at his picking.

I LOVED it.
Honestly, he isn't a good singer. In this form of music that fact matters little to me. This type of music is all about the emotion.
He had me after the first couple lines. I'm gonna have to check other music by him

Check out Robert Johnson, too.

The story goes he was on the scene in the thirties and was awful, disappeared for a while, came back saying he'd sold his soul to the devil and went on to become one of the greatest bluesmen in history.

As for Skip's singing- I personally think it's fantastic, but the vid was recorded in the sixties; some thirty years past his prime, and he was in prison at the time, so you have give him some leeway for that.

The man who sold his soul to the devil to play guitar -- who 'Tommy Johnson' was based off in 'O Brother where art thou?'

Another legend. He's knocking on a bit it in this clip and his tuning's dropped right down to a D - at least. What a tune, though!

Nice, I thought the dude in the first video had a good voice. It has that smokey feel a Blue singer requires.

I started that second video and just had to load a bowl. Way too groovy and old school to not smoke to

I watched the 3rd video and didn't know what to think. That guy was not only a crazy guitar player but he oozed blues

These are cool man, keep 'em up. Ive never been a big fan of the blues but I always appreciated the sound.
