So I've decided I'm going for a bong to smoke my salvia and mj, question is what to get. I going to buy once so money isn't a huge issue; it is what it is. Function is at the top of the list; if has asthetics that's cool too, but i'm putting my money towards quality performance. It has to be all glass; none of that rubber shit. Pyrex is a must, also known as Borosilicate glass. I'd like it to be around 17 in/45 cm tall. The thickness I feel should be around 3.2-5mm, If you got a recommendation state it. I definately want to invest in a diffuser. I'm playing with the idea of ice notches and/or a percolator. I'm not sure whether or not I want the perc inside or outside. Seems like it would be a hassel to clean if its inside and I'm not sure how durable the internal ones are. What if an ice chunk slipped through, bad news? Outside ones are in the way; they look like they could just break off. So the last couple of things I havn't an idea about is joint size and bowl size. No idea what look for joint size 10mm, 14.5mm, 18.8mm? As far as salvia I'm mostly smoking leaf some extract medium or small bowl? I like ROOR, but are they worth it? So what are your opinions, brands, specific bongs? Anything I overlooked? Thanks much for any input; I know it's a tall order and you've certainly invested your time in reading this. Much Thanks

Good call. This is often called a glass on glass - or 'gong' bong.
Perfect. In my opinion a bong under a foot is too small and anything over 2 feet is a monster bong, which are never good for first bongs...

Percolators and diffusers are well worth the investment. Trust me Get them both if you can... usually its a given a bong with a percolator also has an ice catcher...

I'd go inside. I'm not exacty sure what you mean outside, but I think I know what your talking about.

The internal ones are easy enough to clean. You just pour your cleaning solvent, I use acetone because it peels the resin right off, in the top and blow it through the percolators. Shake and pour out. Simple, cleaning them is no big deal.

Assuming your bong has an ash catcher (another worthy investment!!!) the inside of the bong, as well as the percolators don't get very dirty. They don't accumulate resin but a kind of weird residue from the toxins being filtered out of the smoke. As long as you have a regular cleaning interval you shouldn't have any problem keeping it sparkly over time.

As to how many percolators you want, well, that lies entirely up to you. My bong has 4 of them. Some might call that a bit excessive, but the bong is also 3 feet tall. Usually for a bong of 17 inches, one or maybe even two should suffice.

Well 14.5mm is the 'usual' it seems. 18.8 mm is substantially larger, allowing you to take bigger hits but you may not have as wide a bowl selection (or visa versa depending on where your shopping). I dunno if they even have 10mm glass on glass, but I wouldn't be suprised...

Get a bowl that you can use for both weed and salvia. Not too big, not too small. You want ot be able to load a large bowl without if spilling but you don't want it to be gigantic for obvious reasons... A party bowl is a good investment though, especially for salvia with friends

Also, double check the bowlhole. A lot of bongs have bowlholes that are way too big, and because of the suction your weed/salvia is likely to be 'sucked' right through if the whole is large. Usually screens are required for those, and in my opinion, a screen in a bong is a crying shame.

In my opinion, no. You may be paying for a high quality bong but the prices are ridiculous. For the price of a Roor bong you could go to the headshop and get something custom made with ingenuity and artistic ability as opposed to a bland factory made namebrand product. Then again, this is my personal opinion. You'll meet lots of Roor enthusiasts. I have nothing against Roors but I'd much rather spend my time on a custom blown glass piece as oppose to something with no individuality.

If I were you, I'd go to a local headshop. Look around online (or in Phonebook) for Tobacco or Pipe shops, maybe even google Headshops in your area.

Assuming the headshop isn't a podunk hole in the wall their selection should rival just about any online vendor, plus you get to see your bong in person before purchasing. Take your time and remember, your gonna be suckin' on this baby big time, so you better get one you like

Well, if you want name brand bongs there is of course Roor, PH(X), and Molino, there is also Illadelph, Faded, Kaos, LUX, Bluedot/Pure, Toro and the rare Jerome Baker bongs.

I've heard good things about PH(X) and have seen a few in headshops myself. I was SO close to buying a ridiculously slick (and on sale!!!) PH(X) at a headshop in Utah but I didn't know how I'd get it home, haha.

Most likely a headshop; there are a few close to where I live. Also alot of brands don't have websites so its hard to get a feel for their product.

I mean obviously it's all preference but I prefer a simple looking bong with a nice ashcatcher and a headie bowl. I am also very concerned about weight, height and stability. My water pipe is similar to this with a diffuser and a diffused ashcatcher.
