Okay, I just got this very nice Roor from a friend of mine for free. One problem, it looks and tastes like it hasn't been cleaned in at least 2-3 years. Soaked it in hot water and then soaked it in iso alcohol twice. Not very much results. It's still pretty disgusting. I'm thinking of using acetone, but I don't want to use that toxic of a chemical in my bong. Tips? Ideas? Help?

Try the alcohol again...but this time, put about a quarter cup of regular old rice in there with it!

When you cap off the holes with your hands, shake that sucker well...and the rice will help scrape off the residue.

Feorge is right.
You can also substitute salt for rice. Additionally, don't forget to keep changing the alcohol. If the bong is as dirty as you say then the alcohol will turn brown, blackish etc. as it does it's thing.
Pour that shit out and add in more that's fresh so you are constantly using the most effective solution...

I had got some stuff from a head shop called "Grunge off" It stinks but it worked. Just a thought. Feorge and Sterbo gave ya some good ideas though that's probably less expensive.

I normally use salt which works great. I had one once that was stubborn so I took pipe cleaners cut it up into about 1/4" pieces and dropped them in with the alcohol. After some serious elbow grease and a few alcohol changes it cleaned up pretty good. The only thing is, depending on your piece, it may be kinda difficult to get all those pieces of pipe cleaner out. Don't forget to be patient. Let the alcohol sit in there for a bit to really soak in.. Patience is actually a good way to save time and elbow grease.

Yes,
You're right, Purple Power is awesome but it is also much less user friendly. Seriously more toxic than alcohol, you don't want to breath it or get it on your skin.
It's primary ingredient is sodium 'metasilicate pentahydrate'.
For me it would be a last resort...

Alright, I talked to my friend and he suggests 420 formula or something like that. The alcohol and rice worked pretty well, but there is still extremely crusted-on and antiqued spots that don't seem to go away 2 bottles of iso later. The 420 concoction is $5-6 and it just is a couple bucks more than what I'd spend using alcohol.

420 is about as lightweight as it comes, a waste of time and money.

If you're at your wits end try Purple Power though I have no idea how readily available it is.
Off the shelf products? Well, there's always muriatic acid. I would start with a 5 parts water to 1 part muriatic and if necessary work your way to a more concentrated solution.

Note. Muriatic is both extremely effective as well as noxious. You do not want to get it on your skin nor inhale it's fumes etc. Find a work area where no other materials will be affected, protect yourself and soak.
You should have success in no time...

Wow muriatic acid!!! If you choose to try that be careful as Sterbo said. We use that to clean the mildew off of pools and such. It will definately do the trick and much more if your not careful. Not to scare you but just want to make sure you heed to Sterbo's warnings about muriatic acid.
