im kinda new at smokin and im wonderin if it would hurt gary (my bong) if i used him with no water?

it wouldn't hurt it but why would you want to? if you have the bong you might as well use it how it's supposed to be used, it'll be better for you anyway if it has the water. It'll filter out some of the ash which could otherwise go into your lungs.

Actually, it should still hit just fine and be quite smooth even given the larger volume of the bowl by which the air must pass.

Additionally, your high will be somewhat more efficient given that the water dilutes the effectiveness of the cannabinoids.
That's why a good 'ol reefer is still the most efficient vehicle you can ride...

I will occasionally forget to put water in my bong. A hit from a dry bong is substantially more painful than from one with ice water. To me, it doesn't feel "smooth" at all...

I have a homemade bong, but I use it without water a lot, because I don't wanna make any noise when I'm toking. It hits just fine, not as smooth as with water, but smooth nonetheless.

It would be exactly like smoking a pipe or a dry bong, you should be fine. But defiantly use water since its alot sicker
