| Hey guys, so kinda basic information here, but I've tried searching online with little results. I'm looking to get some explanations on what percolators and/or diffusers do. Also, if you could explain the glass on glass/glass on rubber, etc. variations. Mostly I'm curious about the science and mechanical logic behind it and also I got an offer to work in my local shop and figured I ought to know my stuff if I agree. Thanks to all knowledgeable enough to help. P.s. I won't mind reading long posts if it comes to it. |

| A diffuser is a type of downstem uses in GonG bongs. The idea is that instead of having one hole at the end of the downstem releasing one stream of large bubbles, there are many smaller holes scattered out. This allows for more bubbles that are smaller. The benefit of this is that by having more bubbles and smaller ones, the surfaces area of the smoke that touches the water is much greater. This results in much better filtration of the smoke and a smooter hit. Here is a pic of a roor diffuser. Notice all the holes on the bottom. I will do the perculator in my next post. |

| Now, a perculator is a chamber that is found in the neck of the bong. There are many different designs, but the idea is to have another chamber of water through which the smoke can be filtered. I attached a pic of a ph(x) trinity, a close up of the perc, and a paint diagram explaining the process. As you see, the air is sucked through the glass stem, into the dome. There a many holes around the bottom of the dome, which are all covered by water. As the air is sucked through these holes, it bubbles and is filtered. It is then sucked throught the top either into another perculator or into the neck of the bong. Hope I helped. |

| Glass on glass provides a tigether seal and allows the maximum air flow and best hit. When you have rubber, air often times escapes. Generally, glass on glass looks much nicer to and are better made.

| You can find a lot of information on the specifics and intricacies of glass at the Glass Forum @ TokeCity.com Other than that, greenmonster did a pretty good job! ![]() I'd just like to add that their are two types of percolators ; trees or 'fingers', and the dome. | Thank you all. I really do appreciate it. I tried google searches but mostly just got results pertaining to pipes that utilized each part and no information about their purpose. As always, the more input, the better and thanks again. |

| Wow, that's beautiful. Care to explain or give a little diagram showing how that works? Please. It looks like a dome/tree combo. |
