So, I've made my first homemade water bong, and it looks prettttyyyy solid, no need for glue or tape for the stem part, and i put a 5/16 wrench head over the tip of the pen.

I've read that using the plastic pen as the stem will damage your health? I don't see anything wrong with it because technically it's not getting burned, just the metal wrench head. Do plastic fumes actually get transferred into the smoke?

I'm fairly new to smoking, so sorry if my question is a little bit ignorant.

The socket head may be the only thing coming in contact with the flame, but you're still sucking really hot air through the pen, so I could see how it may get some toxins in it. Plus, that socket is going to get very hot and if it's in direct contact with the plastic I could see it melting. I may be wrong, but that just my thought on the matter.

Yeah, I've seen that a plastic stem is not a good idea... dont think i'll be able to find a suitable stem

u can use a pen grip to stick the socket on, its rubber so i think its safe.

pretend the black tube thing is the pen, there is a gap between the tube and socket
so the heated socket doesnt have direct contact.

Just buy a glass bong. It's a whole lot healthier than a metal socket and plastic.
