Default If you leave the water out of the bubbler?

If you leave the water out of the bubbler,

do you just have a bong then?

Oh, and what makes a bong a "gravity" bong?

Thanks, long - time joint user, trying out some new toys this year!

Im pretty sure Bong and Bubbler are synonyms. But Bubbler might be a less precise term. It could also mean Hookah and sherlocks(maybe???).

And a Gravity Bong is pretty different than a normal bong. You take a 2 litre pop bottle, and cut off the bottom. Then, you put a bowl piece in the cap. You get a bucket full of water, then put your 2 litre bottle in the water. Fill you your bowl, then light it while pulling the bottle up, almost out of the water. You un-screw the cap, then take in your huge hit.

OH, and whats wrong with the almighty joint?

oh hey, I love my joints don't get me wrong!! Just enjoying some new toys and trying to learn the different types.

Oh and what I meant by bubbler. Is I have this thing about 4 inches high. Put small amt of water in. Has a carb hole. Put the stuff in, light it, it bubbles through the water, the smoke comes up and at the last minute I let go of the carb hole and then it all goes in!

That's a bong. Bongs bubble, but bubblers are kinda like pipes that bubble(a pipe peice for the stame, same as a spoon kinda, then a bowl with a bubble at the end). Bongs and bubblers both bubble. If you leave the water out, then it's bassicly just a fancy spoon, with harsh hits. The point of them bubbling is to filter the smoke through the water.

Lawnboy is right, leaving the water out of a bubbler like that would just leave you with the basic spoon.

Long live the Blunt!

Wouldn't it be more of a hammer?

A gravity bong uses pressure to force the smoke into your lungs instead of inhaling. The force of gravity pushes the smoke out of the smoking device and into your lungs. Any piece that uses this method is considered to be some sort of gravity _______. There's nothing wrong with taking the water out, but if you spent money on a bubbler, you might as well take advantage of its purpose.

Maybe I'm wrong but a gravity bong in the style of jug in a pale of water actually has very little to do with gravity, if at all. You push the jug down in the water, the water rises and pushes the smoke out, it's more about water displacement.Kinda like when you get in the bathtub and the water come up, your body mass is taking up the room of the water and it has to go someplace. The smoke has to go someplace and since your lungs are open and willing that's where it is going to be displaced to, that's also why they don't have carbs.

Also I just consider a hammer, a glorified spoon.

Your almost right Weiisky, it would be kinda like a hammer. But then again a hammer is basically a spoon. When you think about it Sherlocks, spoon, hammers are pretty much the same except for the design. So were both right i guess.

Long Live the Blunt.

It's not the fact that gravity does the work, it's the fact that you're not inhaling. All gravity bongs use displacement because smoke rises and isn't visibly affected by gravity. It's just what they're called.

I like my "bubbler". The water really helps with the harsh hits like you guys describe!

I want to get a gravity bong now after reading the last post. That sounds really neat.
Hey, is it kind of like when someone puts the lit part of a joint in there mouth and as you take a pull of the joint they blow and then the smoke just pours in and you get a really big hit?

Is that what a gravity bong is like?
