bubblers come in all shapes and sizes. even some of the most complex ones like a quad bubbler can be easily filled once u get the hang of it.
and as for sucking up water, you just over filled it. you need to find the right amount to put in it so u dont suck up water but still gets a decent amount of water.
just get whatever fits your style.

my personal favorite is a Zong or a double/triple bubbler.

Your friend is making things harder than they need to be. lol. Your can just fill it with water under the tap through the mouthpiece. Just make sure not to put too much in and it should be fine and you shouldn't suck any water into your mouth.

Bongs will get you baked a lot faster than bubblers. It's size. I always used a bubbler until I had a bong. After that I used a bong every time. Bubblers are good for transportation though-
would pick it over a pipe any day.

I like the idea of bubbles myself, because of the portability factor. I hate being at a party drunk and high and having to roll a joint. Thats why bubblers and dry pipes come in handy.

But, in my opinion, if you are just chillin out having a session, I like to rock bongs. I feel you can take bigger chops/snaps that make you much more high. Bongs fuck your shit. But you can also controlle yourself, just have a bit. Makes good use of your weed. And with bongs you can get ice chambers, ash catchers, perc's, deffusers, etc... which is saweeeeet lol

And so ya know, vap's are sick too, you should take that into consideration
