Bongs are a nice treat but I don't smoke out of then often. This is because I'm in high school and me and my friends live with our parents and thus there are only a few houses I can smoke inside. Because of this, we smoke outside often and bringing a bong and water isn't the easiest option. A smooth cool hit from a bong is great, but I really like using a pipe. The hits are harsher, but the harshness lets you know how nice of a hit you got, and I'm used to being able to evaluate my hits based on that, especially when you smoke in the dark. So, in my opinion, pipes are the best paraphenalia. (Sp?)

Then I can get higher since I can chief bowl after bowl without burning my throat/lungs.

dude seriously im in the same situation, i do the same thing with the backpack and sneaking it out. i also used pipes for awhile and then got a bong and havnt been happier. i say go for it and enjoy the wonderful experience, bongs are awsome.
