does it really matter when you finish a bowl and the ash goes through the slide and into the water?

or should i look for a screen/catcher.

No, just keep your water fresh if you want your hits to taste good. A clean peice will also help taste considerably. But, there is no problem with ashing a bowl into your water.

yeah, it doesn't matter I get at least a little ash in my bong all the time... I just flush it out afterwards

20til5: that wont be a problem, my friend just bought me a new slide, after he broke the original. you can imagine how that happened.

if not, he was dumping out the bong water (high) and left the slide in. gravity did its thing and the slide fell out and broke in two.
