I cleaned my bong recently, all plain clear glass, I like to see what's goin on down there. I used Two bottles of alcohol for just over $3, I filled the bong with alcohol as high as I possibly could fill it. I left it over night. The next morning I drained about 3/4 of the ugly brown disgusting liquid then I throw a handful of rock salt in. I shook it like a bitch for about 45 seconds, a little more than I needed to, but I shook it for longer cause I wanted it to be supa clean.

Anyway I pour all the liquid out, and what do I see? Crystal clear, even the downstem's crystal clear. the little bit that wasn't submerged in alcohol had residue, but it wasn't too hard to scrape off, I then took a test tube cleaner I stole from Biology and finished off the downstem. Rinsed, and it looked like new.

I boiled the bowl which belongs to my friend and it is a fairly large bowl made differently than I expected. Boiling it smelled a little but no one was home and it didn't hang around. Well it was still pretty hot and it was dry out of the water in my hand. I was using a wood shish kabob stick to scrape the resin out. I was trying to get to the top of the tube right under the bowl and I couldn't. I kept trying and I heard a small crack. I thought it was the stick, so I kept scraping.

I kept scraping and tried to look through it to see any resin, I looked and saw a fat chunk of the bowl missing. I looked around and around on the ground to find it and I looked in the bowl again and noticed that the chunck was still inside the bowl. The bowl had been blown not as a solid top. I tried to position the chunk back into it's original position and tried to keep it there.

Failure, a broken bowl, still works, I can actually snap it now, I couldn't before, there was about two long years of resin on it. Me -$40... I broke the last one this one replaced.

Result: When you boil your bowl, boil it for about 30 minutes or until it's clean, and when you scrape it, be gentile. And another thing, boil your bowl every chance you get so it doesn't get bad like my friend's.

Did you take it out of the water while it was still hot? If you did thats what caused your bowl to break so easily.

$40 to replace a bowl? It must have been pretty fucking fancy.

I just got back from my headshop, where I bought two (2) standard clear glass bowls for a total of $11.50.

It was a fancy bowl, it was huge and it changed color. But he only paid $25 bucks for it. I broke the bowl that it replaced too, that was $20 also. I want to find a couple online but I don't know where to look. Could you point me somewhere?

Why boil it? Clean it just as you cleaned your bong. I just put my pipes in a ziplock baggie fiull of alcohol overnight, flush with water, and they look brand new, no scraping required. Also, boiling your pipes"every chance you get" can actually weaken them consoiderably, especially if you let them get too hot or cool quickly. Chances are, thats what happened with your bowl. Boiling it probably weakened it, making it much more prone to breakage when you scraped it

at your local head shop is the best place to buy a new bowl piece i got two really nice artsy bowls for $40 minding one was $50 the other was $40 they hook it up and i live in cali were prices suck
