Recently, the female down stem on our bong broke. Not completely, but the round part up top that the bowl sits in. It still somewhat hits, but we def need to get a replacement.

How can I measure to know what exact size I need to get ? If pics would help out I'll put some up

If not, just check out a headshop, and find one that fits.

If you have a metric ruler you could use that, or print off a ruler and use that.

I'm pretty sure you just measure it across (diameter). See if the number looks right...

Thanks...we're going to give that a try.

Nashville has a very limited head shop selection....it would be pretty hard to find that part around here.

We'll prolly have to get it online somewhere...just want to be as precise as prossible to get the best fit.

If you have just a standard sized bong, and a rubber grommet, then you can just ask for a replacement downstem and they'll most likely have the one you need. I had a bit of trouble finding a shop that carries them, but I have a headshop near me that has dozens of them. Sorry, I'm pretty baked, so I'm having trouble being coherent, but I'm going to try to find a picture of the stem I have, maybe that would help.

That's the kind that I have, and what I would look for if that's the type your bong takes. As you can see on that website, they're pretty cheap, around $5 maximum, and the size, to my knowledge, is standard wherever you go.

aren't there only 2 main sizes rugularly used....the bigger one and the smaller one. Seriously though, 12 or 14 mm's I think. Measure yours and finding it online should be a snap. (pun intended, but not that funny)

I actually just had to do this too for my bong, I went to my local head shop, told her it was a "standard" looking downstem and she called it a funny name, it was some guys name but I don't remember what. but anyways she knew exactly what I was looking for, hooked me up with the grommet too for like 6 bucks, you might wanna try a head shop even if theres not a lot because they're pretty standard pieces to carry

the standard sizes are 9 and 12 mm. 12 is noticeably bigger than a 9 downpipe. I had the same problem, I cracked my downpipe and had no clue what size it was. I went to the headshop down the street and asked if they had replacements of that piece, they held out the two different sized bits and I could tell easily which was the proper size.
just go to a shop and ask, it's a common piece to have a small stock of. and it's a simple tube too, so it's not like you pay out the ass for it.

Clean it and bring it into the headshop. They should be able to help you out then, it is after all legal if clean right?

If you post a picture of it I might be able to guess what size it is, 9 and 12 are indeed the standard sizes. 12 is almost the width of a pencil if you count the outside rim of the glass. 9 is noticeably smaller.
