i just got a new bong maybe 3 days ago, it came with what i think is a downstem, except the hole is big enuff so that if you put weed in it just falls through and into the water, so im guessing its not the downstem, do i have to buy another downstem for my bong, is this normal, are all bongs like this? this is my first bong, i wanna smoke out of my bong already!

Do you have a bowl that goes in the downstem? The black part of the diagram is what I'm talking about. The grey tube is the downstem. Your bong might not have a sliding bowl. Is your downstem metal? Do you have a carb hole?

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooits not the downstem i guess, its a tube that goes ito the water, but the hole is too big to put in any weed, i think i have to buy another piece that goes into that

I think that we should write a generic user's manual for bongs as a service to the toking ocmmunity.

haha, its more im just confused if i need another piece that didnt come with it, well im pretty sure i do, a good size bowl piece costs about how much, 5 bucks maybe, ill get one when i have money, i cant wait to be called a bong smoker, haha, blunts are still nice tho

A lot of bongs are made for smoking whole buds that won't go down the tube until they're burned up. If you want to smoke ground-up weed, you might need to get a glass screen for it. These are little star-shaped glass devices that sit at the bottom of the bowl and keep loose weed from being sucked through until it's ash.

ive been looking around and i think im missing the sliding bowl, the one in my bong now is not removable and i think you put a sliding bowl into it

yep your missing the slide, just make sure you get one that is the proper size to fit your bong or you will be right back here asking why it doesnt fit or why it doesnt seal right,

A bong without a bowl is like a day without sunshine. Get a bowl yesterday! Save up some dough and buy one that will last you a while, too, not one of those five dollar junk pieces.
