I just got a new glass bong to replace my plastic. My question comes in the function of the slider on the new glass bong. The use of the slider as I understand it is to pack your bowl, light it up, pull the smoke through the water to fill the bong, then pull the slider out and empty the smoke filled contents into your lungs. Now with my old plastic bong, it had a carb (hole) on the back that you would cover with your thumb to fill the bong with smoke, then remove your thumb and pull the smoke into your lungs. My question is in the action of the slider and how it works. To inhale using the new glass bong, you are always inhaling through the water. Is this correct??? Unlike the plastic bong, when you remove your thumb, the air is no longer coming in via your suction through the water, but through the hole. On the glass, you are contantly "bubbling" through the water to fill the bong initially, then to clear the bong to take the hit, I remove the slider (and this is what is different) and I continue to draw air, sbut the air is still bubbling in through the water. It would seem to me that the set "stem" piece should be shorter to be above the water line. Then when you insert your slider (bowl piece), the end of the slider should slide into and through the stem, and be submerged down into the water. Then when you remove the slider to take the hit, you have a good solid hit rather than going through the water "bubbles".?????? ![]() ![]()

I agree with you... So what's the problem then? Have you tried it yet?

Well, I guess I am not used to having to continue pulling in air through the water to take the hit. I am used to letting off that thumb hole and taking a big breath of smooth air. Didn't know if I got the wrong sized stem/slider, or if both the stem AND the slider were supposed to be under the water???

| Don't worry about a thing my man, you are doing everything just fine. The water is supposed to be still bubbling. Think of it this way, it may be easier to get a hit of that smooth air from your carb, but you are getting a lot more water filtration this way. The reason you don't need a carb anymore is because the downtube acts as your carb once you pull the slide out, the air just bubbles through the water first before coming up to your lungs .This is one reason why people say not to fill a bong up too high with water. When you take your hit, you don't want to be splashed in the mouth by the bubbling water.

thats how a good bong is supposed to preform, your other plastic one was more like a bubbler than a bong since it had a carb

with a glass water bong its always going to bubble and when you are about to clear it you suck harder which will make an almost straight hit with some minor bubbling.
